Does the book that condemns homosexuality also NOT condemn slavery...? |
With regard to slavery it needs to be understood that "slavery" in the bible includes all forms of servitude, the most common of which was due to indebtedness. The bible also contains a great deal of guidence on how to treat slaves. Of note; the new testament encourages the freeing of slaves as soon as their debt is repaid and instructions that the master is to provide the slave with the resources to live a free life upon releasing him/her from their debt. |

It is true... RCs have never viewed scripture as the ultimate or stand alone authority. In fact, no Christians did so until the last couple hundred years. If you understood the history of how our present Bibles (I use the plural because there are many, many bibles) came to be and how terribly full of erros, additions, and forgeries it is you would certainly conclude that holding it up as the ultimate authority is pure folly. |

And I am for the third time trying to tell you, I have never said otherwise. You're still not understanding what i am saying and you're still trying to contradict me, even when you don't disagree. |
Actually, I could've sworn you were drawing different consequences from what you said. But, if you're telling me we're saying the very same thing, then I'll take your word for it :)

Funny enough, this is actually the 2 topic this has happened in. |
When did this happen before?

It seems as if you're trying to contradict me to a degree where you're putting words in my mouth, just for the sake of contradicting. |
No, it's because I really feel we're talking about different things.

Wait until I say something you actually disagree with. It's not a disaster not to disagree. |
Well, it's not like I reply to your (or anyone else's) every post :p |

well the bible says nothing about transgendered people. So one male turned female, marries a male. Kinda gay , totally legit. Pope turns red with rage. Boner rage.
religion kinda irks me as i just don't get how people buy into something so stupid. And when i don't understand something , it is irksome. I get the community part and can see how someone might revere the stories of jesus but how one can be a critical thinker and a devout catholic takes some serious selective scrutiny. |

Each one of them has a tweaked interpretation of the babble.. ahem, I meant Bible.
And until the lord himself gets his lazy ass down here and sets us straight (no pun intended), who's to say who's right? |

My belief is that if there is any truth to any religion it is only partial at very best. I suspect that amalgamating the great faiths would produce a fuller understanding of any truth that may exist beyond that which is purely of this world. |

God is omniscient. free will exists.
God knows everything. People have the free will to choose good or evil.
those two things are not contradictions. |

not really. the Bible is philosophical, psychological, and has eternal truth in it.
every word should be analyzed profusely into exhaustion.
just because you "read" something doesnt mean you understand its context. |
