that, I never ever check my emails on my phone. Also for the longest time I didn't give my bosses my cell phone number.

Just moved flat again and currently without any Internet at home. I think I'm going to take the plunge. I think I'm going to live without it.

I've still got 2gb on my phone every month (although my contract won't allow me to hot-spot from it), plus mostly-unrestricted access at work to do important stuff. But I enjoy being without it so much, and I find it makes me do so much more fulfilling stuff with my time, that it just seems like the obvious decision.

The internet def ruined my life....i was a better person before it..it made me more passive ...less inclined to build relationships and work on making myself of course its hard to do those things when your mindlessly browsing the web for 12 hours a day..

This morning I was reading an interesting article discussing a similar subject.

I'm way a head of you I've been living without internet for the past few years. It's still a battle fighting back distractions.

I had a good laugh reading through this thread Jay's posts about Lira's pubic hair.

I've still got the two gigs on my phone. Total cold turkey would be a bit unrealistic. But 2gb of Internet is quite a nice ration, I reckon.

That's a useful deterrent.

I spent the last ~week doing terrible procrastination. If I didn't have internet, at least I would've procrastinated by booting up Ableton instead of browsing the web and made some sick trax :(

My personal experience is that for me, the first ~30 minutes of daily browsing tend to be quite productive, since a large part of it is music related. The time wasting starts when you check the same sites more than once or twice a day. There's definitely something very addictive about F5ing, it's a bit like a slot machine - is there going to be something new? I've been using some of these productivity, website-block chrome extensions but they're too easy to disable.

At least I don't have a TV and no netflix either. Since I've reduced my FB-usage and blocked certain parts of reddit I'm also almost totally out of the news cycle, which is great with all the daily trump-bull. If something happens that's actuallly significant someone will message me about it anyways :p

I find (some) procrastination extremely important, actually. It helps you rewire your ideas and give yourself some breathing room. If you try to go into some sort of productivity overdrive, odds are the ideas and solutions you'll have are duller than before.

Whenever I have to push myself really hard, I try to, at the very least, make sure I'm in a noisy and crowded place, so I'm in an unusual place with lots of stimuli. It worked for both my master's and my doctorate.

In short, I'm all for moderation... including slacking off.

surely you would use more data for music alone than 2GB/month?

New neighbour with unsecured wifi? That could work. Not that I would ever do that.

One of my absolute least favourite habits is checking the same website more than once or twice in a day without a good reason. It really is that slot machine / video game reward dependency kicking in. Such a waste of time, and I'm sure it's terrible for my neural pathways.
