I'll say the same thing I did to every person who got upset on facebook over the tumblr post; stop falling for Joel's obvious trolling. He does the same thing every year and each time people fall for it and get mad for no reason. I have dieselboy and a few other dj's on follow and they reposted what Joel said and got tons of replies with people geting asspained for no reason.
In a weird way I think he is actually doing people a service; be more critical of what you listen to and how you spend your money when you do out on the weekend. Maybe for some of us that point is redunadant but there's plenty of noobs out there who might be going to their first party this weekend. Whether that is intetional or not on his part is something I think about pretty much zero times a day.

I think in the artcile he wrote, he was stating he is not a DJ, which I agree 100% with. He said he is someone who stands around, & turns knobs to look like he is doing something, when all he does is play his own music.

I Agree that he didn't do anything different musically, & I would even say most his music is sub par.
However he did do things a bit different from the people he wanted to be like. He started working with Companies, & started the commercialization of the music he does, many would say he was part of the people watering down European music. Think about what real electronic artists would give their music for "So You Think You Can Dance"?

I agree with his statement. I think it is in the best interest Tiesto,& Deadmau5 to go nowhere near hip hop, or other music they do not know about. They aren't on that level of musicianship to do that. I doubt either Tiesto,& Deadmau5 could make a decent hip hop song, that Cypress Hill shows Deadmau5 can't.

see i guess thats where we disagree. i don't think he wanted to "be like" anyone. i think he's always made the same stuff. the fact that companies want to buy it to put it in commercials and isn't his fault. its not like he has made a conscious effort (or even an unconscious one that resulted in a stylistic shift thats noticeable to people who have followed his music) to become more "commercially viable". to me its the tastes of the people who put the music in the ads that have changed...
use another example. look at someone like kaskade, or maybe joey youngman. actually joey youngman is a better example, cause kaskade was fairly successful commercially even before he started making the absolute e that he makes now. now, none of us here can begin to know joey youngman's motive for making the move from the stuff he used to make to the wolfgang gartner alias, but like...something caused that. the question exists and can be asked, right? was he wanting to "spread his musical wings" or was he maybe seeing disco/deep house as a dead end, with a diminishing DJ schedule and maybe a new mortgage etc to worry about...looking at the "electro" house wave that was rising and the fat paycheques that were going along with it and saying to himself "id like some of that"
with DM there is no question. he appeared, basically said "this is me, this is what i do" and, in a very short period of time, became wildly successful.

He's gone from pure prog with a bit of electro to pure electro + vocals with a tiny bit of prog imo. It's not a coincidence that the latter happens to be the most profitable sounds right now (although there's no doubt he helped make it so).
Change in styles and whatnot aside though, I'll give the guy credit. If you're going to go through all the cheese out there right now, he's probly the lesser of the evils. But overall I don't get the big fuss. You don't like his (or Guetta's, anyone's for that matter) music then don't listen. You don't like his style of rants, don't read em. Nobody's got a gun to anyone's head here...

Just trying to say 2 things.
-mau5 has changed his music in favour of what the mainstream folks want to hear just as much as the people he's calling out.
-End of the day who cares about him or any of the others? Nobody is forcing anyone to listen to their music, go to their shows, or listen to their rants. So if any of it bugs you, then don't.

I agree. Taking cheap shots at people like Mau5 and SHM is just so cliche these days. They're not underground, get over it. I couldn't possibly care less about what they're doing, which is why I don't listen. It's simple.
