Yeah ok stereo bar was not the best.

But I did love Sona bar way back then. On some nights you had a headliner at the bar followed by another one or two at the after.

Can't argue with the financial gain of selling alcohol at Stereo, but it would be equally hard to argue against the impact it would have on the atmosphere there. I'm talking main room. Having the downstairs bar back would be nice.

a lot of people used to love doing that, including myself, but i just don't see nights lasting that long anymore. parties used to start earlier and go later it seems (correct me if i'm wrong here, but that's just what it looks like to me).

it would be unfortunate to lose stereo to regular hours, but it could make sense business wise.

lets look at it this way.. the guv does it and brings down big names. party starts at 10pm and ends at 7/8am... i dont see that being a problem.. maybe i should have started a thread for this.. but being a rumour i didnt want to draw too much attention
Spin Laden
may as well work hand in hand with Circus then lol. In that scenario i could see them feeding off each other
AY STAR
wow thats kind of sad to hear
imo thats what seperated ((())) from alot of other clubs.
it gave the dj the freedom to play out extended sets to the more music driven clubber who didnt mind spending 6+ hours on the dancefloor to be taken on a journey
but at the end of the day ((())) is a business and i can see the change.
i really hope tho for some nights they still stay open later
Dykes_on_Jay
the youngings don't like all night freaks. if stereo starts selling booze i'm moving back. cover + booze = more booking power. they should really have done it a long time ago to be honest. the club is too awesome for only 500 people.
Dykes_on_Jay
rooftop terrace, and bye bye competitors imo.

I may be wrong, but doesn't Montreal have strict licensing guidelines, whereas you have to be an afterhours or a regular bar, but not both?

I think Stereo being a normal club with normal bar hours, with a once a month, or maybe even a few times a year afterhours event makes more sense. The reality is, with a city the size of Montreal, and especially with how clubbing tastes and trends have changed (i.e. away from dance parties that go into the late morning), the format Stereo has currently simply doesn't make sense from a financially viability view-point. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Stereo in its current format, and don't want it to change, but the way I see it, it's either make this change or shut down. Stereo has been struggling in this regard long before they shut down the old club, and it was only a matter of time before this happened.

Again, we can only hope that they can continue doing one-off afterhours events, because if this rumour is true, and they have to operate during bar hours only, this would be a significant loss to the scene on a North American, and even a global level.

As I've said to many before, I have traveled extensively and have been to quite a few of the world-renowned clubs, and quite frankly, Stereo is just as good, if not better than any of them.

There is no place like Stereo.
Marcus007
wow if this is true then it's a huge hit for stereo which prided themselves in being an "underground" club

i just cant imagine the basement of stereo (stereobar) to hold the afterhour djs. it would be a very serious drop in vibe/atmosphere. it's nice don't get me wrong but i just don't see it happening.

could they not be making enough money with the upstairs room?
would they ever book commercial djs like ncg to attract more people? doubt it

what you guys are talking about is more of a re-launch of stereo than anything else. what's next models and bottles? ishh

I wish I could make a chart showing the evolution of after-hours once NCG opened up. This really took a bite out of the competition. ffs I hear comments from people all the time being like "I'm raving at new city gas" while i roll my eyes back and stab unicorns

The Highroller
what is this new city gas place about anyway? Never been
Marcus007
it's this new venue located around the old port that holds some 3-4k people. produkt has been handling bookings and pretty much just doing the top dj mag artist thing and have had remarkable success

beautiful club, decent sound, high end party going with bottles, etc. ever since it opened a lot of other clubs have been hurting.
