Love the GIF's, esp the Russian dancing circle !

I've been somehow missing this stellar event for years now and am just as stoked as when I was going to my 1st EDM festie in '97 north of Barrie - wemf.

Will be meeting up with about a dozen others, and we'll likely set up on the left side of the trail, facing the main stage. There is apparently some shade from trees there. If there is a TA meetup, I'd be up for it!

Newbie question : do they sell ice at the event (so we don't have to drive somewhere), so that we can keep our food in coolers from perishing ? Regardless, I'm freezing a 4L of water and other water bottles as that should keep quite longer than ice cubes. thx in advance

I'll be bringning LOTS of ice then !

I should be near/with the ``TogetherMess`` camp; and there is normally a banner. We are a mix of Burners and Harvesters. Feel free to drop by and ask for Chris :)

I hung out at the TogetherMess at last year's Harvest -until about noon!

Commitments have kept me from Eclipse. Maybe in another two years.

Wow. That was incredible.

The amount of dark deep minimal techno was mindblowing.

Review later...

REVIEW:

The counterculture is alive and well.

I dont like the festivals that have become de rigeur in Ontario this summer. Theyr're just not my scene. Call me a pretentious jaded hipster or whatever.. but I just cant do it. 1 hr sets packed with the same regurgitated anthems, generic 'pseudo self expression' and the same overall formula. Increased popularity resulted in what i presumed was the death of the 'counter culture' that i held closely to me. I was a little worried this weekend, that id see some of the effects of this leaking into eclipse and that itd be different than the first time I went in 2010

Eclipse has managed to escape this 'demise'. Rave culture in its purest form is alive and well at this festival. In alot of ways, it is community driven. The virtue of this party are individuals bringing their own unique artistic contribution. Impressive drumming, juggling balls of fire, doing wizardry with glowsticks that i havent seen in years, detailed costumes, acrobatics worthy of cirque du soleil and so much more. Additionally the unique and creatively decorated campsites are the norm. People here dont hold judgement on anyone. Pure plur.

The music.

If I were to categorize the music breakdown, its something like this

30% (full on psy trance)
30% (techno/minimal)
20% (dark, prog trance (think j00f))
10% (avante garde/downtempo)
10% (dubstep (real dubstep, not skrillex))

The techno and minimal was phenomenal. Stuff I rarely ever hear in Toronto. Deep layered textures and rhythms that take you on a journey. Minimal is a tough genre to pull off and easy to get bored of. However when done properly, its incredible. The set of the weekend goes to Vezper, a local MTL dude who played some of the darkest, deepest most textured minimal ive ever heard. Very Klartraum'esque.

Psytrance is something I love to experience at eclipse at night. The lights + sound + plethora of coloured costumed ravers makes for an experience you'll only get at a proper psy party. I put in my time and danced my ass off to some incredible psy.

Both Friday and Saturday night I danced my ass off from midnight to 9am.

The anticipation begins to ramp up around 6pm where the sun begins to set, and the day begins to cool. The progressive house and upbeat techno starts to speed up and turn more ominous as it gets darker. By the time it is dark, the psy has kicked in. Everything is lit up in a vivid 'Tron' like psychadelic extravaganza. 11pm to 4am is an energetic cacophony of psytrance. Theres a surreal feeling when youre grooving to some banging dark trance under the painted night sky, watching shooting stars fly by every 20 seconds. You're lost in a deep dark musical journey. Just when you think it cant get any deeper and darker, it plummets into the depths... Then gradually the stars fade away as the night melts away into another gorgeous summer day.

During the day, time was spent in the shade reading and people watching, with not a care in the world. Then i'd mosey on over to the 'Stellar stage' and enjoy some of the incredible downtempo that was being played. Id doze off into a brownie induced nap and wake up a few hours later rested and ready to take on another night.

I recommend this festival to everyone. Go in with an open mind and experience the often ignored self expression side of the human element.

Theres my hippy review.
