I feel this is one of the things that really defines eclipse. I brought a couple friends who arent the club type at all, and they had a blast. If I had brought them to any other festival, Im pretty sure theyd be bored.

And ya NO ING BREAKDOWNS. You want to know what killed trance? Angelic female voices and breakdowns long enough for me to grow a beard.

This is why psy lives on, strong.

All of my friends said that this was by far the best event they have been at and how we can go back to regular events in the city is beyond me (its hard imagining going back to Guv for example).

yup, Eclipse was the reason why I stopped promoting and going out in general!
I can't wait for another 2 years :(

I dont blame you at all. After seeing Eclipse nothing will ever come even close to it here in Toronto. The Tech Safari team is light years ahead of Toronto thats for sure. :p

They undoubtedly throw good parties, however I wouldnt say that Toronto is behind the times. The music climate is quite a bit different in Montreal. If tech safari tried to do the same sorta thing in Toronto, I dont feel it would pick up traction.

Toronto's promoters do a pretty good job of meeting the demand of the people. Festival culture is just something that doesnt really jive with the way Toronto is.

Oufff - have been trying to adjust to the default world since back from Eclipse. I love Feelgood's review and share his thoughts on this beautiful event. I arrived at aprox 6PM Fri with way too much stuff to bring by myself, not knowing where my crew was. Two lovely angels in the line-up ended up helping me out and we set up besides each other and hung out for most of the event. Given the forecast for hot / sunny weather, I personally wanted lots of shade and we found some sweet spots in the woods near the 3 pedestrian bridges. My fav sets were usually at the main stage when the BPM's slowed down to the 120's, really dark and trippy, and this often coincided with sunrises / sunsets.

I paced myself and slept (or tried to) in the evenings as I really enjoy dancing in the daylight to see the smiling faces. I found the vibe was especially great (it was always good!) on the Monday, perhaps since we all wanted to soak in the very last few choons. It was a nice surprise that the music went until about 5PM instead of 3PM. Loved the water misters at the main stage. The music at the stage by the water was always really deep, groovy and at times quite deliciously dark (think Tenaglia at Stereo at 10AM). We really did not want to leave and thanks to a connection, we managed to stay until Tuesday. I think that all the partiers should have the option to stay until Tues for safety's sake as a fair amount of people do need to operate a vehicle to leave the event and should be rested sufficiently. Massive props to the organisers, talent, staff for a mind-blowing weekend - I plan to hit the next Eclipse in 2014 ! See you at Harvest !

Yup indeed a much different scene.I would still say that they are ahead of Toronto in some ways both in the club scene and festivals.

Thats the thing though, Here in Toronto the promoters aren't willing to go beyond just the demand. Thats just my observation though.:p

There are promoters that go beyond, especially with the right partnerships.

These kind of things take time ;)

Throwing a good party is super expensive, especially if you're going after international guys. You can only throw so many parties at a loss before you get sick of it.

Often, DJ's that have huge draws in Montreal, hardly register on the radar here, and vice versa. I dont think you could fill footwork (or a similar size room)for any of the headliners at eclipse.

Boris Brejcha was here 4 or 5 months ago and hardly a peep was heard. Guys like the shakti collective have been running decent events for years, but they never pick up the traction that a similar event in Montreal would pick up.

I don't blame the promoters in any way. As someone who has been running and promoting a night (albeit very small) up in Guelph for the last couple years, I can say its a hard enough job. Especially when you're fronting money.

I dont feel Toronto has the capability to be on par with Montreal. The culture is different enough. Like Pivot said, 'we live to work' here. I wouldnt identify it as a maturity thing, more an ethos thing.

Well said.:) Also like you said it is not easy to be a promoter in this city thats for sure. Thank god for having a solid scene like Montreal though.:p
