It's pretty nice. Good opera concerts, cinema is cheap as hell (5$ for a ticket). A lot of nice restaurants and various small venues. Climate is great. 100/100 is like 14€ a month, unlimited, including TV and phone. Clubs are kinda hit and miss and we never get big names around here, but it's ok.
People are friendly and is fairy easy to get into touch with them. |

Depends a lot of the location. My personal feeling (haven't been to the US) is that opposed to you, Europe's countries vary greatly in behavior and quality of life. |

lived in kassel, germany my whole life. ing boring ass city. peoplewise that is. nothing but old people. the clubscene is just the worst. probably the only city with a prognosis for decrease in population.
shame really. |
I guess you weren't around during the glory days of Stammheim/Aufschwung Ost.

It always pissed me off how small towns could have such legendary clubs in Germany, and that it'd never happen in a million years where I lived. |

I've lived in Leeds for the last three years. The weather is appalling, I've no idea about the food because I don't dine out, the city has been so colonised by students and immigrants that it's difficult to figure out who "the people of Leeds" even are, let alone how nice they are, and I don't drive so the traffic doesn't really concern me.
It's not a bad city. It has just about everything you could want without being too large, and as such I'm rarely left overtly dissatisfied with it. It has very good nightlife - the club scene is slightly weighted towards trendy house and techno but the listings are some of the best in the UK, with something for everyone. It's pretty clean and the council are good, public transport is efficient and well maintained, it's very safe for the most part and it actually does surprise me sometimes with how pretty it looks.
I'd still rather live somewhere else - I keep weighing up a move to Manchester, and I would in an ideal world like to live somewhere like London or New York. |
My new job is based in Wakefield, Jack. So I'm thinking of moving to Leeds in September, almost definitely, in fact. One other option is moving to Manchester (which would be awesome) and commuting 90mins each way when I'm in the office..... which is a lot considering it will be about 15mins if I were living in Leeds, but at least I'll be closer to Manchester Airport.
Anyway, I'll know more in a couple of weeks.
Back on topic, I live in Preston, a small city in the North of England, south of Lancaster that Stu is so fond of. I'm not a fan of it, though, there's no music scene and it's very much a student orientated city, that almost exclusively caters for them. So essentially, there's a load of cheesy bars/clubs and the only music acts that manage to get here have associations with either the top 40 or the X-Factor. Disappointing to say the least.
Although, on the positive side, there are a couple of nice bars, plenty of golf courses and.... well, that's about it actually, with the exception that it's remarkably easy to go for a night out in either Liverpool or Manchester, as they're very close. I moved up to Preston for the job, it was a worthwhile move career wise, not so much socially.
I lived in Manchester for 4 years whilst I was at university and I've spent at least 2/3 days a week in London over the past couple of years. I love both of these cities very, very much. Manchester is my personal favourite, as I have a strong connection with it that's hard to explain, but London is just as awesome. Both have incredible music scenes, bars, restaurants, history, culture and generally nice people....... if you're in the right areas :p
Aside from the UK, I have fallen in love with New York, Hong Kong and Paris, so it would be great if I had another opportunity to move to one of these.
Part of my new firms 3 year plan, is to establish a foothold in the American market, something that I hope to be project managing in a years time, so hopefully New York isn't as far fetched as I previously thought. |

I used to live in Lviv Ukraine. Visited other countries in Eastern and Western Europe and each one has something unique to offer. Of course the big problem in Eastern Europe is money, but other than that Lviv was probably the best city I've lived in. |

I've been to Montreal twice. I'm not going to mention what its like because a) I was in highschool both times and b) it was a long time ago so I don't remember the finer details.
I do know that Montreal, or Quebec in general is far more relaxed, but its still Canada and I'm sure Quebec shares many similarities to other provinces. |

Don't blame the ladies of Toronto, pal... the problem is you. I always found Toronto women to be pretty friendly and had absolutely no trouble picking up ladies. It's all in your approach. You; clearly, have no game. |
Really? Thats all you got from all the things I pointed out, that I dont like Toronto solely on the women and its somehow MY fault? A lot of people make the same statement. How would you know what my approach is like? Maybe it isnt the typical douchebag approach at some random ing club on richmond? The male douchebags are partly to blame for this female ego.
But hey, its better to come off as a righteous online than to actually put some thought into a reply, right? |

sadly i wasn't. i was a tad too young back then.
well i wouldn't call just under 200k small but it is definetly not the norm for cities of that size to have clubs like that here. the better ones are still in the big cities like cologne, berlin or frankfurt.
clubbing here is just ing impossible nowadays. five major clubs (three are held by the same guy), four of which play top 40 and hip-hop *shudder*. the fifth is semi-passable but nothing to go to on the regular. |
