there was a time where the complex was more than just a nightclub

he's probably preparing to sell the land that guv is on or at least use it for some other (more profitable) venture while still maintaining valuable music industry ties by continuing to do large-scale events at a (presumably upgraded) sound academy and of course through things like veld

the article also talks about a deal he's considering where ink would become part of a much larger american conglomerate... starting to be a real trend and shaping up to be a battle between live nation and sillerman for the right to "own" mainstream edm, particularly the festivals. not sure if that's good or bad for the underground scene - probably a bit of both

On a side note, maybe he should do something about the organized crime/thieves in his club, where 100s of people get cash and expensive phones stolen from them EVERY WEEK!! :whip: :whip: :whip:

I think he can see which way the winds are blowing and when all those waterfront residential units get occupied in the blocks around the Guv I can imagine the pressure from residents is going to get pretty strong. At least Sound Academy is somewhat farther down the line in terms of redevelopment.

yeah this is most likely, but i hope they tear down SA and build a whole new facility...

I think with in 2-5 years the guv will be relocated over to SA... there building pretty fast on queens quay....

It's just a question of time. The residences WILL get Guv shut down at some point. The politicians always side with them due to the vast taxes they collect as well as votes they gain.

People have been saying that for the past 12+ years.

The way the Toronto Star piece read it made me think that his story would make for a great feature film in 10 years. It's the kind of thing that's been done before but still read like it would be interesting, regardless of your opinions of how he influences the scene in this city.

When you stop and look at what is happening on Queens Quay right now it's not THAT bad (in terms of closing Guv). Although there's more potential condos down the road, current construction and recently completed buildings is all office and George Brown buildings. Pier 27 being the only condo exception and it's too far west to be much of an issue. Biggest problem for them and any other condos going up around there is Redpath sugar. Quite often the area smells like outright during the day and up to a couple times a week it's really intensively bad. That to me as a condo owner that would be 20x worse than having loud noise once a week on Saturday till 7am or so.

Long story short, if you stop and look at what is happening in the area guv won't be shut down any time soon. All of Cherry street is currently up for discussion in terms of how to develop it and if they decide on a new condo city it's very possible SA is at risk before Guv.
