good thinking on charles' behalf - always looking ahead and trying to capitalize. what a perfect back up venue for when guv will be forced to close its doors for good sooner or later...
i see this as guv2.0
new sound system and some basic renovations and you've got yourself a perfect alternative. really craving an all access sound academy event - main room, liberation lounge, back "breaks/jungle" room and solarium all open and flowing. that would be spectacular as long as they could throw an event big enough to fill the venue decently. i know it's doable if they can cater to different sounds!
i miss old destiny parties and big parties at the docks in general.
few big ones that stand out over the years:
Destiny's Together as One Feb 2007 - Johan Gielen vs Kyau & Albert [TA 7 year anni]
St Patty's Party 2007 - Sean Miller/Vibe/C&C (one of the best tribal nights to date)
Love Music v1.0 Jan 2010 - Satoshi Tomiie/Honey Dijon/Martinez Bros
Soulstice - Industry Reunion - Dec 2008 - DAVE the Drummer/Scumfrog/Derrick Carter/D-Monic
Chus & Ceballos - Canada Day after party 2007 (super mental  )
man those were some crazy parties...
btw this article was a fantastic read. thoroughly enjoyed it - thanks for posting! |

It wouldn't be so bad if they'd do a damn DJ set. Their live shows get so tiresome. I just want to hear stuff from Classical Mushroom and BP Empire FFS. |

Another ray of hope that for the time Guv and SA co-exist ink uses one of the two venues more exclusively for underground music! Toronto keeps moving up a notch! I've been a fan of Charles Khabouth and respect the guy for what he has done for the city. He's at least been creative.
I have hated the way things have been going at Guv recently though. Hopefully this new venture turns things around and we see some class acts booked. Might be much to ask for, but, an exclusive afterhours club like stereo or circus could change things around for the Toronto underground edm scene. And, we could see better talent booked than maybe even Montreal, if that happens! |

| Thinking of The Docks will always remind me of Stababalloo. |

Does anyone know the math on how much money is made from a typical booth? I was trying to figure out if it is really that much more than could be made from enough patrons filling the same space as all those couches but standing crammed together. It's like $1000 for a booth/bottle service at a lot of places correct? |
The main benefit for the club is access. If you buy drinks one at a time (or 2), you line up and wait - this is lost time where no money is being made. If it's right at your table you are able to access a new drink more quickly and there is no wasted times, from the perspective of sales... |

Yep. Too bad I don't see things changing with last call being extended regularly and this is why bottle service will be successful. Besides, say they extend last call why get a bottle when I can just get a drink later on in the night? |

:( I agree Stefan.
And YES wow, such amazing times at those parties. I just love that main room when the party vibe is on.
