prometheus was not that bad. would be interesting to get an idea what was in the suicide note. Could not find anything about drug abuse or depression and taking your life by doing that seems really uncommon for hollywood.

Prometheus was directed by his brother Ridley. I'm curious as to what was in the note too. I doubt we'll ever know. I wonder if Ridley having an Oscar and Tony not having an Oscar plays into this? EIther way you look at it, truly sad.

Can you provide some examples for reference? I'd like to experience what the heck you're so passionately in hate with. :)

You can just name some names... it wouldn't happen to be Avicii or some similar Afrowhack / SHM / Guetta garbage?

I'm not sure that counts as progressive anything, does it? :p

Actually, I'm likely to hate anything with the label "progressive" in it unless the BPM slowly progressively go from the usual sleep inducing 120~130 BPM range to 200 BPM goodness and beyond... or something of the sort. I said "progressive hosue", but I can't be arsed to distinguish "progressive house" and "progressive trance", so this is what I'm talking about :

I've never ever been able to listen to this from start to finish. I once tried to speed it up to 145 BPM to see if I could make it more interesting, but the build-up was so long, I eventually gave up half-way through, checked if there was something good on the fridge, treated myself with a super sammich, went back to see if the build-up was over, went to the gym and back, found out the build-up was still somewhere in the middle, took a shower, read War and Peace, and when I thought I heard the beat kick in, I found out my pet cactus had jumped off the file cabinet after being exposed to this track for so long....

... I then hit the stop button and vowed I'd never listen to it again :(

RIP CACTUS 2000-2001

the term is defines an aesthetic to separate from something else. It is the same reason people use it for progressive rock , progressive metal. It isn't to delineate some type of progression. All music does that. So your bpm thing is a little weird.

Regarding that track, well try listening to the complete ring cycle in one setting, Let me know how that goes.

I love that track.

Progressive House happens to be my favorite "genre" at the moment. It seems like every six months that changes, though, as my ears - within EDM - are exposed to different DJs and tunes.

I'm not familiar with this guy or his work, but this sounds like tabloid speculation.

:o

EDIT: Top Gun? How didn't I know that? :o

I agree. no one knows how bad the person is suffering, Also to judge him for his choice of a way out to get rid of the pain is not fair to him.

As pretty much all genre labels do :p

As I recall it, "progressive house" is supposed to be a form of house which incorporated elements of trance music, and "progressive trance" is supposed to be form of trance music with a strong house influence to it. In this sense, "prog" was supposed to be the ultimate genre, bringing the best of both house and trance music together.

In reality, however, it became such a huge bore its greatest feat was open an immense hole in my soul :(

I'm glad it is, because it was supposed to be just a piss-take at the name :p

You mean the whole build-up? Do you want me to end up like Tony Scott?!

I thought we were friends!

Edit: Does progressive house really deserve more attention than this guy, though? Let's go back to what really matters, shall we? :)

A sad end and not likely to change the perception of most who think that money/success = happiness. Imo you basically trade one set of problems for another... I enjoy Hollywood for some of the creativity that comes out from it but I also despise it for how it can chew up a person and spit them out like garbage.

I'm just really not a fan of suicide.

He was 70 years old and had inoperable brain cancer. What he did took an incredible amount of gall, as most people would rather cling to some lofty hope that they'll manage to eek out a few more years of life, sucking off their family's money (probably not a problem for him though), and even more so, their emotions. Seeing someone in a state of barely clinging onto the threshold of life is truly no thing to inflict upon your loved ones. It is too bad he chose such a high-profile way to die, as it's bound to just bring unwanted attention to his family, but getting a chance to choose how you die is a thing that can be said of few people, especially in what was likely an early state of depression and resolve.

He did not take the pussy way out.

I'm a bit sad that he's gone. I liked his recent films more than his most famous ones.
