Just because house draws bigger crowds doesn't make it any better. Hell I'm sure that Britney Spears gets more of a crowd than many trance shows but that doesn't change the fact that she's crap. Around my area the scene is mostly euro and freestyle (ewww) but I really couldn't care less because while others listen to Lasgo's new track or Milc Inc. or whatever i'm at home pumping my Van Buuren, Van Dyk, Tiesto and whatever else trance-related that I like. I've gotten lots of people into trance but others who hear it and tell me it sucks are entitled to their opinion and I respect that. Realize that trance IS underground, house is more mainstream and is played in more clubs but trance is like a hidden treasure that we have discovered :D.

Ye all songs of a genre pretty much follow the same basic equation and since there are millions of songs out there in hundreds of thousands of genres and sub-genres you can't really blame a producer for making a song that sounds like another one.

Some DJ's move into other styles of trance or completely change their genre but that doesn't change anything with trance. Trance is good as it is with amazing DJ's and fresh faces popping up all the time. I don't think that the scene is dying at all in fact just a couple of days ago I picked up about 20 random, new trance tunez and they mostly rocked. So when I download 20 new songs from AVB or any other good DJs and they all suck then trance is dead till then it is alive and kicking. |

I see a great role for Push in the next few years. His remix of 'Troy (phoenix From The Flame)' did very wel in our charts. He seems to have ascended to a higher level.
What we need is new artists, new producers who evolve to higher levels. There is great room for progress in the genre. The 'Perfect Track' has not been produced, but if any genre will evolve to lead to the most beautiful music ever, I think it will be trance, since classical is confined by it's instrument sounds.
I'm talking a hundred, two hundred years from now. |

Trance is Dying
Oh well, if you feel that trance is dying and Armin is playing the same old ing PUSH/Mike blah blahs alike sounding tunes.....then why the hell are you still lurking on the forums? No pun intended but the number of you senior tranceaddicts who have been here since years back...claiming how beautiful the muzik was to you.....now....you broadened your radius to explore different realms of electronic music....all I see is progressive converts who have migrated to GU board and mingle with the crowd there....sure....why not? Progressive is just as enjoyable as Trance.
What formulas are there? There has to be a foundation to every structure. That defines the landmark of electronic music which makes it easier for people to classify. Certain elements has to be there to make it sound right.
Half the bunch of you are here either to sneak in the the you-know-what-area and checking out the latest productions. Why? Is it because trance has always been in your blood or you are just here to diss the latest track?
Without the invention of strings, drum instruments since the primitive age, do you reckon we would have electronic music at all? Simple theory of evolution. Every thing, behaviour or tangible/intangile assets evolve. Not to mention, music is an audio-sensory feeling. To say that any genre of music is dying/has died is simply passe.
The producers out there are trying to connect to us with their music. You listen and you feel. If it doesn't cut out to you, it. Choose another genre. Take it like a new season of your favourite sitcom.
There is more to trance than anyone will ever know....that's my theory. Trance has always been in my blood since 1996 and it'll always be the only genre that keeps me alive.
Oh yeah, for those who has been dissing Tiesto, you ought to really delete any Tiesto song you have, burn the vinyls he produced/remixed you once own. ( clearly you set your mind that he's no longer the person he used to be ) Huk. Oh yeah, you don't even deserve to sell them on Ebay or here. Why make some money off someone you hate so much. Have some business etiqutte.
Enuff said....all these bull about how memorable 99 was...True tranceaddicts would take out any tune and enjoy it no matter where they are....
If you decided to sober up on Trance.....kudos to you....start your addiction on other genres....as many people here have clearly stated that Trance is still alive and kicking and the chances of dying are second to none....

yes 1999 was a good year for trance... I agree. but guess what .. just have a look at how many "original" tracks were produced this year. And how many DJ's such as Armin have really gone big just by playing trance. And don't forget that trance is not just what holland/uk produces but how about the russian/israeli front? Psychedelic trance has been around for ages, not many producers but look what some israeli dj's still spin and the crowds they attract to parties such as brotherhood.
Some people are switching to house or hard house personally I find house impossible to dance sober and hard house too repetitive (and some people here say that trance is repetitive). I've been to a live event with deep dish and was so ing sad to see that the beat never changed for the whole 4 hours they were playing. What the hell? why do people like that crap anyways. I believe what some people pointed out here that in couple of years we'll be listening to trance and say how good were the old says, but I'm sure we'll say the same 2 years after that as well.
And no comment about the older trance songs being remixed. Thats not a sign of a decline but a sign of the fact that some older songs still have potential to appeal today if slightly tweeked. Referring to UK people just look how many stupid pop singles got in your charts this year that used to be 80's songs (Will Gay Young, Gareth Gay, Atomic Kittens et al..), does that mean pop won't exist in a few years? I doubt that.
And as last point.. its the people who drive whats being produced and not the producers, recordlabels or dj's. If we stick to trance they will produce and spin more trance, if we slip to another genre so they will.

mmm...don't see how what you said can be true (assuming we are using chart places as an objective measure of selling records).
As for trance dying....
well I do feel it can be traced (to a certain extent) to producers producing very cookie cutter, uninspiring tracks (many of the Flip n Fill, Fragma, Darude (post Sandstorm), DJ Aligator, etc.) and while these do get high chart positions and loads of radio play, it's not the same because most of these people are listening to these tracks on a regular basis are not the same audience who put great deal into the type of music they are listening to so much as they choose it simply because it's what everyone else is listening to (much like Lemmings)and it's obvious that these aren't the people who are going to be paying great deals of money to go to clubs (as we know them) on a regular basis, shelling out loads of money for vinyl and CDs, etc.
However, another effect, I feel is that there is great deal of elitism in effect. Those who have been around when the scene was in its infancy cannot bear this loss in quality, thus they leave the scene for prog (most of them) because it's still in its infancy, relatively unfettered by the "evil of commercialism" (which I think is bull). By leaving the scene, they leave it to those who refuse to support it and it dies (for an example, just see why Cream closed)
Personally, while I am disturbed with the number of dance music by numbers tracks, I don't feel it is as much as a danger to trance as mindless elitism. |

I like trance since 97 or so. Since then, getting new MP3's and listening to them. Its been so fantastic to me. Almost everybody disgust my music, I mean, nobody likes it here (in Mexico), tehy all start saying so many childish comments I dont want to remember.
I went this summer to Europe. Went to "Motion!" and "Gate One", both in Switzerland, and also to the "Love from Above" and the "Love Parade". And......
I found how great TRANCE is
Listening to it is so enjoyable. But is better if done live. You lucky guys that live in Europe shouldnt cry because you think trance music is dying. Its always an evolution. Compare today's classic trance to 98 or 99's trance. Its very different! And so on, 00, 01... But do you notice you have always loved trance? I do, and Im always adapting to newer trance styles. I think this evolution is what keeps trance alive.
Maybe you dislike it because you live with trance almost every day. You all have the chance!! I wish I also have it. If it seems boring to you, let it a few days and you'll be dying to hear some trance, as I am now. Damn.... I want, and I will go to Europe to stay, someday (being more specific, to Germany).

I totally agree with you on this. As far as Trance dieing, i think it's all a matter of personal interest. In time peoples interest change... myself i can't see my interest in Trance changing anytime soon unless all that comes out is just pure cheeze. All i have to say is that I LOVE TRANCE... and songs like Frank T.R.A.X. - "Nebuchan( O.R.G.A.N. remix)" and Tour de Trance - "Wan Wu" are keeping me trapped in with no escape in sight.
Now an electronic music that's having a bad period of time right now is Drum N Bass/Jungle. |

Trance will never die since we still have our classics and the songs that are being made as we speak. If it does "die" like you say then people will still listen to it. Music styles have "died" but it doesn't mean that people don't still listen to them. Every one keeps mentioning 99 for some reason, it was ana amazing year for trance but why not look at now and not just years gone by.
