Is trance dying? (pg. 7)

dudes, despite what you think about trance, it isn't dying.

it's getting more commercial, like almost anything after it has been around for awhile. duran duran/madonna was once considered underground.

well, i guess it depends on what you mean by "dying".

Trance is underground... there are hundreds of groups that play trance in the underground... Of course you have the more mainstream traditional trance like Dumonde, Ferry Corsten, etc... and the so called poptrance like DJ Sammy, but there is an underground... just wait for the poptrance and traditional trance to fade, and you'll be left with the trance underground.

no, trance is not dying, it is huge in japan, that's why ayumi hamasaki is releasing so many trance albums

and IMHO trance is still big in uk, and house has been dead for 10 years already. that's why M People are not selling anymore :-< (i used to like M People)

I dunno about anybody else's feelings about the Ayumi thing... but I think the trance remixes of Ayumi illustrate who's into trance for the money... I think any real trance artists wouldn't be remixing pop singers from Japan, esp considering they probably dont even understand the language or the song...

Ayumi is after all about as popular as Modonna in Japan & parts of Asia... It's sad to see trance composers cashing in on her popularity for a quick buck... but then again, I dont usually listen to those trance artists anyways, I prefer something more real...

Whats the problem with this? For money or not, that album was great! It was a work from many great DJ's. The songs are great and also it was very original!

I cant stop listening to Push remix of "Boys & Girls"!!!

Alright I guess Im really late to this post but Id just like to add some of my comments...

I first discovered trance about over 3 years ago now, (maybe more??), a friend had lent me a burnt CD with some files on it I needed, and it also happened to have the original Tranceport on it... out of curiosity I took a listen, the first tune I happened to click was PvD - Words, and boy it was a pleasant suprise. I had no idea music like that was made, and I was hooked. Over time I discovered the other various genres of elecronica, and my tastes got very broad. For a while now, trance just hasnt suprised me like it used to. Most of the new tracks are different synths and tunes arranaged in the same buildup/breakdown format. Really the only 2 trance DJs/producers whove managed to keep my intrest are AvB and PvD, Armin because of his weekly radio show where he can show off fresh tunes, and Paul because his style is really flexable. He can get away with playing really unique tunes (one that comes to mind is that really groovy tune in the Loveparade preparty set before Summer in Space), and his productions are generally fresh and dont usually follow the same formula, unlike a lot of other producers I can think of (tho Arctic kinda sounds like Paul's answer to Sun Decade - Im alone to me . :stongue: ).

I think the main problem with modern trance is that most DJ's producers dont progress and evolve their sound. By now, we have firmly established a decent population of well known producers of trance, who have huge fan bases and are sailing smooth on their record contracts. This, I think is the problem. These producers either dont want to try to create bold new sounds and genres, or their musicical inspiration, while great in its time, simply got old and tiresome. I wont name any names here, because I know I will be instantly flamed into oblivion... this is just my theory.
