Agreed. I have a lot of respect for JD but the comps he's put out in the best part of the last decade have been typical of the old accusation about prog being 'boring'.
I went to see my mate Demi play at heaven a couple of years ago and diggers was playing the main room - even at that point I thought he was past it, but he ing killed it in a subtle way. He's certainly not one to "light up the dancefloor" or jesus pose etc, but he played quality music that suited the crowd and club - a little of what you expected and a little outside the envelope.
I have that set from 98 and you're absolutely right - it's banging to say the least, but never say never. If they were able to do it once, they can do it again. I got dragged in to going to see Oakenfold in Vegas last year and had little to no expectation but he actually played pretty damn well in a reserved and complex way - Not at all what I expected (outdated cheesey trance).
Then you have to remember, there is a reason some of these guys made it in the first place and are still around today. Seamen is one of those - he was right there with Sasha in the beginning but never quite got to the same level, and again, years later his still has the ability to knock it out.

LOL so if you're telling me to stick to techno, that implies that you don't think Crosstown is techno. You said its wrong for me to connect Crosstown Rebels with tech house, therefor you must not think its tech house. What exactly do you think Lazarus has been cranking out over there since the label started? Nu Disco? Progressive House? No, its ing tech house. I probably know more about the label than you do anyways.

I totally agree with this. I was just as skeptical as most when I went to see him here in Toronto and the past two appearances were beyond phenomenal. I agree with most on the compilations/essential mixes/some transition shows being boring but he def does not have that same effect live. Just for the record, I was pretty much in the "He's past his prime" club before I went to see him play however he blew me away so hard I'm starting to think maybe he hasn't even peaked. Luckily, both shows were very well documented so I'll share some of those moments with you (although it still doesn't do it justice).
