| essentially poor people. To be completely fair, i used to add about 3% to every tourist bill that did not tip to my fancy. As long as it was under 30$. But what you people in vermont do is completely immoral. |

Tell that to all the rich people from Jersey that move here, and all the wealthy tourists that make up a massive part of the state's income.
I will say that a major caveat of why I love living in Vermont is that I can go to Montreal so easily when I want to get away. I need to have access to both. |

Sounds like you need to defend Vermont instead of just leaving it.:p
It's like purgatory with pretty leaves once a year. |

didn't realize there was tourism in vermont. Why do people go there instead of say the Rockies ?
I get nervous outside of big cities. Even off of the island is just too far for me. I like to be places you don't need a car. |

its funny, because i'm considered black to some people in this country. It's because of my skin tone, not my ridiculously large trouser trout.
Being here makes you realize how wrong Canada/Quebec is doing things (especially Quebec). I'd love to see a student protest here. It wouldn't last long.
Even the broke people don't complain about having hard lives. They get up every day, work ridiculous hours and don't complain. In Quebec most people will cry because they might have to do a little bit of overtime at time and a half. They will cry because apple is too expensive. They will cry because they can't afford their 200$ cellphone bill. They will cry over stupid things like needing to work in the French language, when no one else in the world does. Then they will cry because they are too stupid to see that this is the reason they can't find a good wage, because smart companies don't invest in Quebec.
Here they don't cry unless someone dies, because they will be ridiculed. They don't have time to cry.
If you are a good talker/negotiator here, money grows on trees. In Quebec you would need 15 permits, thousands of dollars to get them, and a failing business because half of the province is too broke to be of any value.:p
The drawback here is that you don't have to try very hard to die. So many neat things that can kill you here if you are stupid. Natural selection is a wonderful thing. No welfare makes it easier because the bums have no home or have to leave it everyday here if they want to do cool stuff like eat. |

Oh, so now we have to feel sorry for you for paying taxes? So what? Everyone pays taxes. Do you go to the doctor and get free health care? Do you use roads? Did you get educated in the publicly funded education system?
That's like saying to my employer, "Well you know, even though you're paying me a salary of $X per year, I am legally obliged to declare every penny I walk out wiht or I face an audit come tax time. Therefore, you should give me more money."[/color] |
you are so far off here.
but i digress, no point in arguing here. i guess my "big picture" point is that it sickens me that the government would rather hit people working at the bottom of the food chain (like me), rather than those at the top making illegal incomes. the service industry is simply easier to hit than the infrastructure industry or construction industry in quebec. i think we all know where the most corruption and tax evasion comes from, and it's definitely not from restaurants, although i am very aware they they are not entirely innocent either. the finance minister wanted to see more money and got it from taxing the poorest people out there. god forbid the real crooks are hit hard. that would be too just.
do i go to the doctor & get free health care? only if i'm willing to wait 8 hours and miss an entire's day's work. can i get a family doctor here? been looking for 11 years, still can't find one that will take my family on as a client.
do i use roads? you mean the roads with huge craters in them that cost my family a ton in car repairs every year due to damage incurred from them? or do you mean the roads that are constantly being shut down for more (questionable) repairs, rendering this city a ing hell hole to get around in?
did i get educated in the publicly funded school system? sadly, yes. i was not from a rich enough family to be able to study overseas. presently, i'm told i'm overqualified for most jobs i apply to, holding a BA Specialization in Psychology, a certificate in Family Life Education, aiming for a CELTA teaching degree in the near future, and then finally a Masters degree in either clinical psychology or social work, haven't decided yet.
on a related note, the block on tuition increases was the stupidest decision. EVER.
i'm still in school because i cannot find a job in my field (mental health). why?
bring on the debt.
thank you Quebec. |
