Will Toronto ever have a strong trance scene like various European cities? (pg. 3)

^^^ :haha:

On a serious note, trance is dying in terms of popularity worldwide. So If you're hoping/expecting/waiting for a big scene to blow up in Toronto it's not very likely. Just look at all the traditionally big trance names out there and look at the genres they're playing. 9/10 it's electro or prog (in Tiesto's case diarrhea) but rarely is it actual trance.

Ever? It already was. But barring a major trance resurrection (certainly possible in a few years given the often-cyclical nature of music & fashion - when people start getting nostalgic for 2001 in 2020, maybe then it'll come back), it ain't going to happen here or anywhere else.

I think most people feel like trance tries a bit too hard with over-the-top euphoria. It was cool for a while back in the day when it first came out, and it was a novel sound, but now it's just exhausting and too much. At a trance party, I feel like euphoria is being forced on people, and shoved down their throats.

Most times when I go out, I just want to hang out, have a drink, chill and have a good time. I don't want to have an otherworldly, emotional epiphany during a 5-minute breakdown that happens every single track in a 4 hour set.

That's the reality of liking an underground/fringe genre. Do you really want to walk into Starbucks or Foot Locker and hear trance/techno/house playing 24/7 or have it on every radio station? Isn't that kinda besides the point? This isn't pop music, for a reason. Thank god.

trance as a fringe/underground genre.....far from it.

Toronto did have a huge trance scene......long before most people here could spell trance.

I'm just gonna go out on a limb and guess that most people are simply tired of trance like I am myself. Not even j00f interests me anymore and I used to think he was brilliant

My niche is that 99% of trance produced these days is garbage... and the sets deejays play portray this too sadly..

I pretty much agree with this, There's nothing cutting edge these days, so you really appreciate the good stuff when it comes along. When you oversaturate a sound, or pigeonhole yourself as a DJ, or even as a listener, no matter what genre, it's still rare to find an entire set of pure awesomeness.

Unfortunately Toronto is not privileged... it's spoiled.

People are iffy about trance because, as proven by the retards messages above, people don't get it. Trance is also lost in translation these days.

fixed.

I think that's something that I've noticed that has changed quite a lot about trance in the last 10 years or so. Trance literally used to be (as the name suggested) about inducing a trance in the listener. Big long tracks with very slow builds and breakdowns and sets that took an hour to build up to what most tracks do today in 3 minutes. I almost feel like a lot of what early trance (up to around 2001-ish) did for me in terms of zoning out and falling into the music is what a lot of minimal, techno and tech-house sets do for me today. Trance doesn't induce a trance in me much anymore (with the exception for a rare set now and then) where I can fall into a rhythm and just dance the night away, but a good well constructed techno flavoured set seems to do it. I dunno, just my opinion.
