Anyone else been moving to Psy lately?

Over the last year particularly, i've been fed up with a lot of the mainstream trance. However John 00 Fleming showed me a whole new world. I've found to really love "Psy-Trance" if you will, and also the more progressive side. My favorite artists right now are Airwave, John 00 Fleming, Timewave, and Lyctum. Anyone else been making a migration toward the more Psy oriented trance? What do you like about it?

People here have been moving towards more psy influenced sounds for years since it's pretty much the only style of trance left that has even an ounce of credibility.

I've been into Goa for a while. Suntrip Records <3

Always found psy to be so ing boring, thats what killed GOA music. Those producers you mention fuse psy and regular trance together and thats why it works. Regular psy is as bad and generic as the crap Armin play every week

Love it. Fav bit is the basslines :P

From the list of Artists you mentioned you will also like these:

Activa - just made the progression from trance to psy, love his new sound http://soundcloud.com/activa/activa-live-midnight

Ovnimoon- http://soundcloud.com/ovnimoon/ovni...nd-dj-set-10-12 (sound quality isn't the best)

Protonica- http://soundcloud.com/protonica/for...n-album-preview

Personally, I really enjoy progpsy loving everything Ritmo touches these days, quite possibly my fav dj. Love Captain Hook as a producer, am yet to see him play (will be rectified next month when I get to stalk him over Oz).

Best song of last year.

Everyone is heading over to psy now. While I enjoy dancing to it and prefer it over execreble fluff/electro/vocal trance, I'm not really convinced it's the future. Even the respectable names like Ovnimoon, E Clip, Ritmo and so on have a very generic and predictable sound that recycles the same few techniques and timbres. It just happens that the formula they follow is a little more credible than that of mainstream trance, but it still gets pretty dull pretty fast.

The stuff I really love is essentially deep, progressive trance with a minor psychedelic twist: stuff like Solar Fields or Cosmithex.

I've listened to psy-trance since like 1997. Haven't in a while though.

I'm not moving because i never left. Always listened to Full On Psy Trance but started listening Prog Psy only a year ago, and i thank that to mr. J00F :)

I moved to it pretty much after I got into mainstream trance.

My dad listened to trance (and so did I) when I was about 3. I got into it again when I heard an advertisement on the TV for gatecrasher classics and recognised some of the songs.

I then very quickly realised there weren't even enough decent trance tracks to fill a 3 disc cd, let alone enough to listen to.

I'd definitely be up for more euro trance if there was more of it that was reasonably complicated.

Depends on what you mean by regular psy.

The stuff that's played at the local psytrance club and at doofs here is usually pretty interesting. Generic full on is still much better than ASOT fodder really too IMO.

Anyway, the "why psy is better than trance" discussion is probably a bit pointless (apart from everyone listing why they moved over).

I reckon it'll be around for a long time, it has a umm, quite unique culture. There's always the underground innovative stuff, and there'll always be lighter versions of that stuff coming out. Even if omnivoon and all become cheese there'll be the next wave of producers making decent stuff.

I mean there's been at least 20 very decent albums coming out every year since at least 95, I don't think that it's going to suddenly die any time soon. It may become a lot cheesier and good stuff may become a lot harder to find, but there's always so much stuff being released and a fair bit of that is quite good.

Have to agree with this. While J00F and others can pull psy off really well, I generally prefer the other parts of his sets. The slower, more progy stuff I have always found to have a much more diverse and interesting sound compared to most psyprogish type productions.

I would take J00Fs "Deeper Side" mix and the first half of his 2010 EM over psyprog anyday.

One of few sub-genres I've never been into and probably never will be either.

Thank you to those who won't be moving onto psyscene.
We don't need anymore douches like you anyway...This is how uplifting trance got so exhausted and butchered, because we had an influx of s like you,who ruined it for the people who did enjoy it. The less popular a particular trance genre is the better...Lets keep it that way...
