Limited pressing are cool if you like collecting, but really ing dumb for people that would like a copy of the music and they aren't willing to fork over a ton for artificially inflated prices on discogs.
I love playing vinyl, but I think this whole limited pressings fad is a little silly. I can see why labels do it, but ehhhhh. |

Well, thanks. I thought the reason was the label or the artist trying to get a market/business image of being 'cool' or something like that, wich is, in my opinion, acceptable but still annoying. |

yea but limited doesn't necessarily mean vinyl only.
Look at a label like Ethereal Sound or Skylax for example. They're both vinyl only but their records are not pressed in limited numbers so when a store sells out they usually are able to restock, and prices on Discogs always remain reasonable.
But take Levon Vincent, for example. While it's cool that my copy of NS-06 is selling for twice what I paid for it, I'd really like to be able to have some of the other releases that are selling for $50+. |

Well records are pressed in batches which usually begin at 300. Often records are limited to 300 copies but that's only because the label is afraid that it won't be able to sell more than that (I have some AMAZING records that are limited to 300 copies that came out 9 months ago and are still available for retail purchase, so more often than not it doesn't work out for the label). It's those rare occasions where the record actually turns out to be a huge hit yet once it sells out the label refuses to have more copies pressed. Those people are the real culprits. |

The operative word is only. Why alienate so many people from owning your release just because they don't play a particular medium? The overheads of offering digital downloads are practically zero, and many labels even give away free digital downloads if you purchase a vinyl or CD copy.
Vinyl-only releases are for the little circle of dutiful house and techno listeners who like owning records rather than listening to music. |

Levon represses often. Set reminders Juno and you'll get it eventually. |

And what about going vinyl-only as a means to avoid digital piracy? Ever thought of that? Also, you have to realize that some of the people that run these vinyl only labels only play vinyl and releasing digitally is not even an option they would consider. Also, for a lot of this music, the market is people that play vinyl. It's very rare that something is vinyl only and a lot of people actually care. And also, I've seen enough labels (like Skudge, great example) that say vinyl only and end up releasing digitally down the road.

I got Solemn Days and Invisible Bitch Slap on repress. Those are Deconstruct but same parent label. The pressure can only build up for so long and then he's going to start doing runs of the Novel Sound as well I'm guessing. |

So can you, if you actually want to play this music on the bus, in the car, at work or at a friend-who-isn't-an-obnoxious-trendster's house. So laugh it up.
Music should be available to music fans, not just DJs and people who like owning records. No surprise that when you go to any trendy house night the crowd is polluted by wankers who don't give a about music and are involved purely for the sake of appearances. |
