In my opinion, 1999 will always be the greatest year for trance

hey everyone. I know 1999 trance has been overly documented and discussed like crazy. my opinion is nothing new but I compiled a list of trance tracks from each year and I realized how great the catalogue was for 1999.
I mean, how can you write tearjerking lyrics like chakra - love shines through? Til' we meet again is one of the greatest tribute tracks ever in all of music. it's also the year the big 4 (AVB, Ferry, PVD, Tiesto) really made a name for themselves.
I respect the earlier years of trance, but 1999 is above and beyond any other year when it comes to trance music. |

It was also a great year because Above & Beyond didn't exist yet! :gsmile: |

Not sure if this is a joke or not, but I will take you seriously anyways. I'm making a catalogue too and I have yet to find a track from 1999 (or earlier) that doesn't sound like (in every possible way, and this also includes beloved 'Xpander' which smells too, though not as much as Tiesto's and Ferry's crap) compared to what came out in the last couple of years.
As far as I'm concerned, trance is only now becoming good haha. |

You're a complete an utter moron. Have you actually listened to any of those tracks from that list above? Let me guess, you listen to ASOT? |

I have banned myself from listening to ASOT. The show is depressing, it makes me feel disillusioned after only 2 or 3 songs into it. This is not to say that there isn't a rare good track in there (I can't tell, since I banned myself, but it's not hard to believe that he throws in an occasional decent track that never gets popular with the crowd).
Oh, and it's strange that you loathe ASOT when it's pretty much modernized late-90's trance lol. (of course, the 90's synth fetishism stops people from realizing that mid/late-90's trance is exactly what ASOT is about today).
So what part of the list are you interested in? Kamaya Painters? Their songs are ing joke. Rank 1's "Airwave"? Do I have to ing comment on that? Gouryellas? LOL? I think Darude's "Sandstorm" is missing.
The best tracks are Xpander, Finished Symphony and Saltwater (it's a nice early pop trance track). Then comes Adagio For Strings and Lifeline (Heaven Scent is not that good) and the rest. Also -- the original mix of Madagascar (not the assumed Ferry's mix) is better too ( it, it might even be better than most of these songs).
So yeah, the year is nothing special, unless you count nostalgia. |

There are a few good tracks on that list, as well as a few bad tracks that I enjoy, but for the most part I'm going to agree with jvs and say that that list sucks. There are some great songs from '99, however.
Also, what the hell Matt? |

Yeah, OK, so Oakenfold's EM sets, Tiesto live at Innericty, PvD, Chicane, Red Jerry all crap EDM in 1999? I'm not a fan of Airwave particularly, either, but compared to the majority of crap being churned out today at the rate of 500 of a day, it's a masterpiece. And how on earth can you call Saltwater an 'early pop' track. Seriously. What planet are you on?
Write a list half as long of the above, of decent songs from the "last couple of years".
You have to be trolling. |
