In my opinion, 1999 will always be the greatest year for trance (pg. 8)

'99 was my favorite year by far, the Oakenfold world tour... Pretty much highlighted what good progressive trance was about.

That is not to say that the rest of the 90s was bad, and even in to 2000 was ok.

But if I had to pick a time span, '96-'99... '97 had a lot of killer tracks in it, especially Tilt ‎– Butterfly / Rendezvous. Rendezvous's break, build and release pretty much defines what late 90s trance was meant to sound like... Shivers every time.

Trance is nothing today like it was back then, and that is even accounting for the nostalgia factor.

My fav year was 2003, a lot of rocking booty dark tech trance that year! But 1999 had some superb melodic tunes I'll tell you that...

Man I love any track that has synths, and uplifting sounds...its what makes me a lover of trance music, I love it all, and it wont ever stop giving me goosebumps.

I'm going to play the devil's advocate and say that Matt Darey pres. DSP - From Russia With Love (Solar Stone's Red City Remix) is a fantastic track. Yes it takes a page from Li Kwan - Point Zero but I like Solar Stone's interpretation of this track. The buildup and guitar synth are great.

based on the previews, this is a very nice american trance release by Steve Porter (no pun intended).

That's a good track, but what makes me laugh is that it's appeared on at least six Euphoria compilations. That series almost single-handedly made it a classic.
Mattsanity.
are you saying that track has been bastardized and played out via compilation series? I get your point.
SYSTEM-J
No I'm not. I'm merely making the point that the Euphoria team seemed to think it was some all-time classic, or Matt Darey somehow signed a contract guaranteeing him multiple uses of it in their albums. This was always a source of amusement to me and others who used to listen to the Euphoria CDs.

I actually like Point Zero over From Russia With Love...
