As for multicore, it's going to be all about logic X - I expect that (and it's price point) to put at least one of the other major software developers out to pasture.

The moment it does full multicore support, 64 bit node support and comes with a bunch of new plugins (and the existing ones are ing great anyway) it will kill the market. I also expect to see a bunch of protools features get integrated as well.

FB is right - cubase has been way more buggy for me and Logic, pound for pound, can handle more without freaking out. Both have pros and cons obviously, but Logic bundled plugins, stability, performance and price point just outshines Cubase. I mean Cubase is still like $600 with halion. Logic pro 9 with more software and samples included is $199.

If you have a mac, absolute no brainer.

Oh and you;re a bit off base with the Pro tools thing; Unless they are being given away, you'd have to be a muppet to buy PTHD interfaces now it's gone native - the new mac pros I think will put the nail in the coffin for Pro tools HD hardware, but give it a new lease of life on native system as few current mac setups can handle that many tracks for real time FX.

I've already got Cubase up to 6.5, which supports multi core and is almost totally bug free for me. That's on PC, I have heard evil rumours that it doesn't run quite as well on Mac, but I know plenty of people that use it on the platform anyway. I will be getting Logic as well though, seems stupid not to for $200

Tell me about nodes. Does this mean you can perform processing on remote machines so I could say hook up an i7 Mini to a Mac Pro for added grunt?

i have never nor has anyone I know ever got them to work. And it only works in 32 bit. It is ed up. I gave up once 64 bit came along. I know 3 other professionals that also just couldn't get it working either. But VSL ensemble kinda solved that hitch.

Noobs.

We've bought possibly a dozen mac mini's to use as nodes over the last six months.

Nodes work just fine; it's a very simple case of just getting the preferences right and having a proper ethernet connection. Most people don't realize that their preferences are all screwed up and then erroneously blame it on the nodes.

Nodes work perfectly once you do this - it's really a pay off as to what you need most as they're not 64bit. So if processing power is the issue, then do the nodes. If RAM is the issue then forget nodes and run 64bit as that will allow you to address more memory.

there sin't really any settings to set. Connection is there. They just don't work. Legit everything. no actual network to speak of. Just computer to computer. The simplest possible connection. Can't get it to work. Well i think that was with like an early version of 9.

same os
same version of logic
Same computer

could never get it. And there are so many people asking well when it was something people wanted to use in the 32 bit days. And there was never anyone that would say it was working for them. Not 1 person. Except you. lol

Would nodes work with Premiere and After Effects as well to reduce render times?

The other reason I'mma wanna go Mac is video work as well.

it is a logic thing. Not OSX.But why not just use your double raod 0 512 SSD scratch disk.

Aaahhhh righty ho.

Won't need that then.

I've yet to max out my Q9400!

There's the problem. The very early (I mean initial release) was super flakey with nodes but that was all fixed with 9.1 and since then there's really no problems, and that was about 18 months ago.

It's really user error.

The most common problem is that people don't realize you HAVE to use the EXACT same version of Logic and Nodes on both machines.

The next is the preferences:

Under Preferences > Audio > Nodes - the nodes have to be visible, and enabled.

Under Preferences > Audio Units Manager - those plug-ins' "Nodes" checkboxes have to be selected.

The the next most common problem is that people try to use an old G5 or PPC they have kicking about as a node, but the problem with that is that you can't use anything higher than OSX 10.5.x on the G5 which means you're limited to the earlier releases of logic and then have to downgrade both versions of logic.

If you're using the same version of logic and nodes, connect via ethernet, and check the appropriate boxes in the preferences, it works perfectly.

Honestly, not rocket science.

yup

just tried apple plugins among others. YOu get the dotted line but it isn't green. Node says connected pn slave. The node setting also shows the node and it is selected.

It will give an error for plugins that are not the same version. But those that are, nothing.

Just a grey line. It should be green. There is nothing anywhere that answers this issue everyone has. Except you.

I've tried it with 4 different macs. Legit logic. and thats it. it has never worked. I have never seen a person publicly claim it has ever worked. So i gave up.

What version of Logic on each mac?

What version of nodes?

How is the ethernet setup?
