New to Toronto and EDM in general! Where should I go for NYE?

Hi!

I recently moved to Toronto and am loving it so far!

I don't know many names of DJ or producers/etc, but I went to see Skrillex, Deadmau5 and Swedish House Mafia last year. They are pretty "mainstream" so I think that's the type of EDM that I enjoy...

Would anyone have any recommendations where I can go check out for NYE? Any DJ/producers/events where that type of music will be played all night? Even if it's an up and coming DJ with that type of vibe, I'd be interested.

Thanks, and thanks to this community for being here for noobs like me. We all have to start somewhere! :)

FW is doing a new years party with DJ Sneak.

You might have heard of him, his claim to fame is talking sh*t on twitter to the djs/producers you've already seen. He's one bad ass house gangsta. I'm also told he makes a mean BBQ Brisket.

Welcome to Toronto!

Id check out clubs like Guvernment, Uniun and This is London. Those clubs regularly book the names you listed.

Also check out the events listing link at the top of the forum. Almost all the big electronic events are listed there.

I think you'll like some of the ozmosis bookings, they bring in guys like dash berlin, w&w, stuff like that; the crowd is somewhat young. here is the facebook page; follows.

Thanks, I'm going to take a look at these suggestions :)

Can somebody let me know how the Guvernment is? My friends used to tell me about it (about 5 years ago) but I asked them now and they said it's a bit more crowded than they remembered.

Is it true there is no space to dance and move around at the Guv? I was thinking of going to see the Gareth Emery event for NYE there with my friends.

I don't mind if it's crowded, but if I can't move around at all (even if I stand at the back, which I don't mind) that might not be so fun...

Also, does anyone know the typical age range for these events?

Thanks!!

Definitely more crowded now than several years ago, but it always thins out around 2am.

Age range: all of 'em. From those sneaking their way in that are 18 up to 50+ Asian dudes. But you'll still have fun if you keep the right mindset and hang near the back. You'll still be able to move.

Agreed.

I rarely go to Guv anymore, but I've always been able to find room to dance by venturing towards the back of the club.

Its definitely the best super club in Canada. Have fun!

One last silly question... do you order your tickets from inktickets.com? Or is it cheaper/better to buy them elsewhere?

Thanks again for all your help guys :D

The Ear
Ink is the Guverment's booking agency. Without knowing the people personally, you're not going to find advanced tickets much cheaper if at all.

Have fun. Everyone here, regardless of what they say about Guvvy now, still remembers the first time they walked in there. More often than not, even if most won't admit it, they smile when think of that moment.
