Jack Moss - Time & Space [Mixtape]

This was created for a mixtape/mix CD swapping community a friend invited me to join. The theme was "Time and space" (no !) and there were no real constraints on how we approached it. After some thought, I decided to do one continuous mix based around tracks themed on these concepts, to create a general physics-y contemplation-of-the-universe vibe. Musically it's quite varied, not quite flowing in a traditional sense but hopefully coming together as an overall journey. Managed to fit in a lot of favourites I would never otherwise get to play.
01. Space Manoeuvres - Zero Downtime [Lost Language: 2005]
-Francois K Feat. Joe Claussell - Time & Space (Excerpt) [NRK: 1998]
02. Healer - Hibernation [Candyflip: 2004]
03. Talisman & Hudson - Leaving Planet Earth [CSMF: 1997]
04. Dave Wallace - Future Reality (Part 1) [All Good Vinyl: 1996]
05. Nebula - Astral Soul [Subtle Audio: 2011]
06. The Timewriter - Resetting The Clocks [Plastic City: 2007]
-The Timewriter - Zero [Plastic City: 2007]
08. Davor Bojanov - New Dimension Of Life [Mistiquemusic: 2010]
09. Francois K Feat. Joe Claussell - Time & Space [NRK: 1998]
10. Alex Rize - Nebula (Michael & Levan Remix) [Morphosis: 2008]
11. John 00 Fleming - The Astrophysical Nebula [J00F: 2012]
12. Intex Systems - Dream Sequence (Jack's TRD Re-Edit) [Covert Operations: 2005]
-Intex Systems - Absorb [Covert Operations: 2005]
13. Laurel Halo - Strength In Free Space [Hippos In Tanks: 2011]
-Plastikman - Fuk (Excerpt) [NovaMute: 1994]
14. Model 500 - Starlight (Echospace Dub) [Echospace Detroit: 2008]
15. B12 - Satori [Warp: 1993]
16. Lemon Sol - Universal [Guerilla: 1994]
17. The KLF - 3am Eternal (Blue Danube Orbital Mix) [KLF Communications: 1989]
Enjoy, and as always: tell me exactly how much this disappointed you. |

That tracklist looks interesting. Drum & bass, prog, house and ambient techno in one mix? I wonder how you'll pull that off.
I was thinking about making a retrofuturespaceambientdetroittechno mix a while ago but in the end my conclusion was that these tracks are too god and I am not worthy. Although I might make a Mills-esque space techno mix at some point. |

| I'm very much jumping on this. I like my mixes varied these days. |

Splendid.
You had a nicely relaxed flow going on that sounded like it could have gone on for much longer. Spacious enough to comfortably fit the different styles.
There were good tunes and it has a sensible progression, the ending tickled me to no end as well as a nice little wink towards the concept. |

Very good mix, Jack.
As Bierheld told, the flow is quite good. You mixed together a whole variety of genres which made this very interesting.
The intro track is amazing, giving to the mix already the 'Time & Space feel'. Loved the D&B section, specially Talisman & Hudson - Leaving Planet Earth, what an outstanding tune, blew my mind away! Everything was really amazing, until the prog section.
I really felt the prog section was a bit boring. It didn't kill the flow, just kinda lost a bit the evolving atmosphere you built. It's hard to put in words how to explain, i mean, The Astrophysical Nebula and the prog tracks played at the end, has the exactly RIGHT vibe you should have played on the prog section. But at the same time, i know this is very personal, and every person has their own perception of how Time & Space should sound like.
So, after The Astrophysical Nebula, it was very good to listen some Ambient tracks. Nice timing. :) From there, flawless ending. Lemon Soul - Universal is superb. |

Glad you enjoyed it. The last track is actually an early remix by The Orb (they used to call their remixes "Orbital [Whatever] Mix", which obviously became confusing once Orbital rose to prominence), featuring a typically daft sample of Strauss. Seemed a perfect punctuation mark for the mix.

No, I understand. Those two prog tracks were definitely the place I'd expect to lose the listener, especially as the target audience wasn't a clubby kind of music fan. |

| haven't found the context to listen to the big beat one yet ( off, i know...big beat and life just don't mix.) This one i can wrap my condilomas around nicely at any time. Leaving planet earth is a personal fav that i never thought that i would see in this section (or any) of this forum. Brb, torture. |

Really? Oakey used to play it quite a lot. I'd say it's one of the few drum 'n bass tunes I'd expect trance heads to know. Fairly sure Dave King has used it in a mix before, as well. Either way, I think we can all agree it's absolute genius.

Thanks! I put a lot of thought into how to fit it all in. I really enjoy making varied mixes like this, mixing moods not beats. |
