well im not gonna bash you, cause UNlike many others i recognize the ideals of the individual here...BUT!
i dunno if this is really a responsible statement on your part. maybe everything is becoming *americanized(i.e.USAized)* but that doesnt intend WORLD DOMINATION. someone made the simple, eloquent point earlier that IF we wanted to rule the world we coulda annexed most of Europe after WW2, which is absurd, but not impossible.
ill let your America bashing continue unrelented tho, cause i could bash on certain topics too, but REMEMBER--- of all the nations in the world, Canada is the most like the US outta ALL of em. Socialism and a small military dont change the fact that a lot of our values are increasingly similar.

well, that may be true, and i'm glad it didn't happen. however, here's a metaphor for what you just said. I just went to subway on my lunch break, and i saw a nice old lady sitting on the street, with her purse on the ground beside her. i could have taken if it wanted too, but i didn't.
however, i really don't think that is all that commendable, that's just normal.
countries aren't SUPPOSED to try and annex other smaller ones, so, it's really not that impressive that america didn't. especially when they are doing just that now, by more subversive means such as the WTO.

well.. i'm not america bashing at all. it's merely some of the policies i dislike.
and as for canada being just like you.. well, i hate that too, and fight it every and any way that i can. including posting on this forum that a 3cent raise is no reason to plead for annexation by the USA.

Yes you are damn straight i was ticked when i heard this, and i must agree with the previous post on how are taxes are spent, way to much waste. Now im not 100% on this but im pretty damn sure that in the last election did the Liberals not say they wanted to abolish the GST?
Now what 3 years later they wanna raise it? Sounds a lil fishy to me. We are definately over do for a new leader IMOP. |

i intended moving out of the country pretty soon after I finish my degree... but now after hearing that they consider this kind of bull tax raise and that a programmer starts at 30K canadian, now I'm defintly sure of it... matter of time....
I mean they just lowered the revenue tax by not much because it was meant to lower the deficit, but now they want to take the same money from another tax... what about the huge surplus the govt is stacking every year...
oh and the thing about the US taking over the world... I can't remember which writer wrote it but it was saying something like that: " No need for wars or weapons anymore to conquer the world, all you have to do is control a country's economy..." |

| you know what i like??? how this entire thread was started with misinformation or a misunderstanding. canada is not raising the gst, the story is that they are thinking of POSSIBLY doing it in order to help balance the budget. but they havent done anything or made an announcement that they are defenatly doing it. (they being the government). get the facts straight before posting, im also suprised that im the first to notice... really....:rolleyes: |

first our hospitals aren't THAT bad... a close friend got his spine completly reconstructed with metal (first time they did that kind of operation in the world) and all that for 0$....
ever heard of CLSC ? bring your blood so they can test it... takes a couple of days. 0$
last 5 times I went for medication, payed nothing... 0$

And also they wernt considering raising it to balance the budget, but to pay for the ever increasing healthcare costs.
