btw, i think alberta is starting to try more of a private system. In theory, private health care along side public health care is really good. It eases the stress on public health care hospitals by allowing some people to go to a private hospital. |

just a little fact for everyone...
if u make 50k per year you make between 31-34 net...if you make 35k per year, you make 24-27k per year net....the beauty of canada and this god for saken province we call quebec....
btw, i graduated with a degree in IT last year and after 3.5 years and 9000 bux total, i was surrounded by bombers, terrorists and retards...what did it get me? not even a 30k job in computers...another field!
if my parents and myself werent taxed so much in the past 20 years, i would have graduated from university in the states getting an entry level job right away without even looking making 40-60k U.S funds and....barely taxed! and the cycle would start again and i would afford school for my kids once they reached 20 years old....
you see the pattern, its all a cycle...."in canada, you make all, half that goes to the gov't. The rest of your income leads you a meaningless life and you get to die in a hospital for free, since thats what you paid for your entire life.... go to states with a degree, get a good job, piss on the poor people, pay for health insurance and laugh at the rest of the world" |

Harsh words??? what you gonna cry like a baby? I'm also stating my opinion too you know...
I'm tired of those that criticizing the exact way you just did. I'm also tired of how the things are going in here but not in the same way you stated... you made it sound like we're a third world country asking for international help... come on man! The things you stated made no sense, and that's my opinion.
And when was the last time you saying hi at Aria??

lol... my bad. appairently i missed your post. way to go me. what i read on canada.com was they were doing it to balance the budget, because of healthcare. crap. i unno... i guess i forgot to put it in there. long day at worl. you know how it is. all i can say is thank god at least two of us know the facts...and also that we dont type in caps:D |

Sounds to me like Canada are looking at what we're doing here in Australia and since the government here get away with a 10% GST then why the hell shouldn't they kinda reasoning. But when all said and done it works
we have Medicare and free schooling and heavily subsidised college, A welfare system etc etc. Yeah we have the same problems too, there's waiting lists for some medicare services like operations and so on. But it's bound to be imperfect due to it's very nature.
Personally i think it's a lesser of other evils and i'm content have it in place. |

Uh yea i am canadian goof. I had to leave that gay country though cuz they would rather screw the rich and give money to the poor so they can buy drugs and alcohol. Capitalism owns. Thank you USA you give us canadians hope that there is a better world |

Well done malek, i really like your ideas in this thread, and your reaction to other people trying to drag you into a flame war. i am a programmer as well, we should talk some more.
anyway, a few things i want to say in relation to all this.
yes, i also noticed that it(the raising of the GST) has not happened yet, but, that they are thinking about it. they are only considering it. this is the time to raise your voice and say NO more GST! you don't protest after it's already been raised.
now, i also know that when it's publicized that the government is "thinking" of doing something, that means they WANT to do it, and are testing the waters of public opinion to see if it is supported. I say raising the GST sucks, and i will let them know my opinion.
also a few thoughts on healthcare. i just got back from an awesome lecture on healthcare, given by a woman who has been researching healthcare in Alberta for 40+ years. she gave a very informative and interesting talk about how the privatisation has been detrimental to quality, access, price, and safety of healthcare in the province. over the past 10 years, alberta has gradually moved to a 2 tier health system (even though the govt insits this is not the case) wherby costs are transferred to the user like the united states.
british columbia is currently "thinking" about moving to this style of system (read. the govt wants to do it, and is trying to market it to us)
anyway, the talk was excellent, and more information can be found on the internet. here is one good place to start:

and finally, i am also a programmer in canada, i started at a paltry 24,000 a year, and am now making just over 30,000, those are before tax numbers of course. i could make more in the US, but i don't care, i like canada, and i am staying. |
