Stop posting about what you could do, or might do, and ing DO something or nobody will ever ing take you seriously. |
Like I said, I want something possibly related to my current skillset right now. I don't want to go back into web development (the other bulk of my skills and work experience) really unless its for my own product, so having a headhunter help out on that would be much easier than doing it on my own most likely because most of the jobs related to what I do now are either in Europe or the south in the US. Finding something here related to that field (even if its not military) then that'd be awesome.
This thread is asking if anyone has used a headhunter to get a job and if they enjoyed the experience or whatever else. |

| Yeah, good luck with that. |

| Can't be as awesome as Paul Oakenfold mixing music behind someone reading the raven (or whatever it was). |

My experience with headhunters is this: don't really bother with them.
I had a job I got with a headhunter, got let go after 2 months. Job wasn't a great fit either.
For that same headhunter (Robert Half) I did a couple gigs. Literally gigs like weekend stuff or one or two day events. Although given my profession that kind of stuff isn't uncommon in the sense you can contract out parts of a deployment or project out to some lackey.
All they really provide you is the connections and the time saved looking. If you feel like you can man up find a job and have a decent resume you're probably better off. The "connections" are really just larger clients too lazy to post adds on Monster/Job sites but you'll find the same jobs posted on that said company website :/.
I'm sure you're aware they do take a percent of your paycheck and it can be rather cumbersome getting paid - for example you might have to submit your hours to them and then the headhunter pays you rather than being salaried. It's really a mixed bag.
If you really wanted you could do both, there's no real disadvantage to using them that I can really see from my experience. They helped me fine tune a resume and go through some mock interviews as part of the process which is nice and all but you should already have these skills anyway...
I think you kind of have to look at it for your profession and if it's something you think will help you get a job. If it does then go for it. If you don't then continue your blasting of resume. I don't really like to have a middleman in between (plus you probably won't be able to do any sort of negotiation for perks/benefits which I always try to do myself)
I'm 24 right now working in IT at an "intermediate" so I'm sure that plays a role as well. However my friend worked at a headhunting agency, I've also been through two of them and seen the companies perspective where they've used a firm and to be honest they seem like a complete waste of time.
Let me know if you have any Qs |

| Thanks for the info! Yea, I've heard a lot of negatives about headhunters so far, mainly the lack of smaller shops, how much of a cut or fee they take, etc. |

BTW if you want something to do for fun and potential profit
If you can find the person who stole over $14000 from me on a beach next to Mamamitas at Playa del Carmen on January 7th or so, I'll give you 10% of anything left of the funds.
This of course is open to anyone.
I'll consider doing more than 10%, its a quick $1500 if you can actually do the job. I'll give a bonus if most of the stuff is left. Or if they can be brought to justice and a restitution order obtained.
It was in a US ACU medic bag. Taken at around 8:30am or so. There were people cleaning up on the beach. People of interest are the clean up staff at mamamitas and one young man with a clear plastic bag. The person on the bull dozer I think saw the guy. Who took it.
The the cleanup staff might remember the event still as I was frantic and extreme. there were about 6 people. The dozer guy seemed to incline he saw the guy dump some stuff in the trash pile which the staff looked through for me. My library card and driver's license both expired were found, my passport house keys, the money, a pair of studio headphones and other items were not.
In addition to the cash other bonus prizes would likely continue as well as me thanking you graciously and definately reffering you ongoing to anyone who needs that sort of service.
If you want to practice your skills do this job, if you find them, I will most likely forever thankful more or less.
I really want to know who did it. :whip:
You have witnesses, the date and time, the location... I can give a general description. They took my medic bag but left my camelpack. I still have it not sure if there would be finerprints on the camel pack although I should have thought perhaps the ID's I didn't take expired cards back as I was so pissed off. I think it was the guy with the clear plastic bag.
Good luck with that one right. If you need more information let me know I filed police court and public security informations, as well contacted the US consulate in DF, as it was an ITAR treaty item being a genuine US molle II ACU medic bag, none the less havn't heard back, basically massive beach theft for me and it did a lot of damage in my life I have a lot of hate in me from it, and until it is rectified I will harbour that hate.
They also took my BPM tickets.. which I bought a second time then didn't make because I was so drunk trying to do damage control. I bought two sven vath cocoon tickets... none the less if you can find them it will help correct something that is something that fills me with evil.
I'm guessing there was no follow up in Mexico.
If you can do this, you can probably find anyone.
The whole thing was a crazy 48 hours... the day before I had got kicked out of Josh Wink and Stacy Pullen, I blacked out and either fell or was pushed into the pool... the staff the next day which told me to come back the next day said to come back for my shirt... all I got was no shirt and you crazy... none the less I went to the beach just a bit over as Mamamitas was next door from the event.. My snorkle and mask was also taken not too long after... in front of the ticket office........
I can't go too great into detail but I had quite a bit of rum in me during that period and went through quite a bit... one of the last things i remember at the wink party aside from having a really good time in the pool before having a moment of consciousness was having a cigarette, I don't smoke, I remember getting back into the water, then next think I remember is falling into the water... with my shoes on. The next day I felt great though things got worse.. apparently I was naked back at the place I was staying and some Argentinan girls and guys stumbled in on me, I have no memory of it. Apparently they covered me up but that was pretty much it. Spent the next day or so after the bag was stolen while alking the beach rocks and swimming and drinking. The police didn't seem too concerned. Public security sort of just said, that's a lot of money, I actually did legally import it and had my declaration still. Not sure if it was targetted due to someone seeing the money, or they saw the headphones and took the bag because the bag and headphones were cool. They may have thought a laptop was in it as I had the money cash most 20's canadians and some 100 dollar US notes. and some other bills, lots and lots of Canadian 20's.
If anyone saw it after they would probably remember.
This caused me to have to unenroll from my final year of university, left me stranded, in debt, and I am still trying to replace the ID that was stolen, such as my passport, and some others. I can't beleive they took my keys as my keys were for many things but nothing in Mexico. House, car, etc.. some keys are the only keys too.
Sooo much pain and damage to my life... it has cost me north of $20,000 for that theft and I'm a poor student caused me to leave my intended degree, even though I managed to pick up a lesser degree.
BTW if anyone provides information that positively leads to the identification and or return of the stuff taken you will be compensated. |
