What is a healthy diet?

How much fat? How many carbs? How much protein? Mostly plant foods, or mostly animal?

There seem to be all sorts of opinions on this but not very much agreement. On the one hand you have the Atkins and "paleo" people advocating for plenty of meat and moderate to high fat and protein, on the other hand you have the followers of doctors like Ornish and Esselstyn advocating extreme low fat vegan or vegetarian. And basically everything in between. And then there's the calorie restriction people saying we should mainly just eat a lot less.

Do you have any opinions on the topic? What's your diet like?

According to Dr. Esselstyn, a no fat plant-based diet is the healthiest. It's really hard to argue with that.

Just eat clean food. Veggies meats with no sauces.
for veggies i steam and serve with vinegar and oil.
for meat I eat with no sauces and mixed with veggies.

I however do eat a ton of carbs. Like a lot of in carbs. I have to stop.

I eat mostly seafood, rice, whole wheat or spinach pasta, and vegetables. I'll only eat poultry once or twice a month, and red meat less than that. I try to vary as much as possible between Salmon, Swordfish, Monk Fish, Flounder, Shrimp, Scallops, and Tuna once in awhile. Just hope I don't get mercury poisoning.

Consult your doctor for such questions. Asking random strangers on the internet, who have no knowledge of your physiology and quite little on general physiology, is not a good idea. This is why bull like paleo diets and LCHF are brainwashing way too many innocents.

lol, I'm not going to start planning my life around what people here say. That would be idiotic. I was just curious what their thoughts were on the subject.

It depends on your lifestyle. Most people fall into the "normal activity" category which means you need roughly 25 kcal/kg. If you're 80 kgs*, that means 2000 kcal/day.

Proteins: 1 gram per kilogram/day
Lipids: around 30g/day. These are needed to build the structural cell wall.
Carbohydrates: Should constitute about 55-65% of your daily caloric intake, unless you're a diabetic.
Vegetables: 300-500 grams/day
Fruits: 200-300 grams/day.

If you have renal-problems, it is recommended to skip high proteic diets, but this is disputed. This is by the text-book. If you work out, things get a tad more complicated since it matters a lot how to split these meals.

I usually eat like this:

Morning: 200 grams of chicken breast with tomatoes and two apples.
Afternoon: 2 apples +/- 1 orange
Evening: 2 apples/strawberries etc.

I avoid all fat-foods, bread, sugars et cetera. Only fruits, vegetables and healthy meat.

* 1 kg = 2.2 pounds.
