How Do You Identify The Scale Of Your Track?

So, I lay down some notes and they sound ok together. I create some pads, some melody on top of it etc....they sound coherent as a whole.

How do I know what scale I'm using to put these things together? What should I watch for? The basic root note maybe?

you would probably require a intro to theory primer, a piano and about 24 hours or practice.

Yup.

In EDM, the root note of your first and/or last chord is likely the first note of the scale for the key that your song is in. The next step is to determine if it's major or minor. Most EDM is in a minor key, but many songs are in major keys.

Check Wikipedia for the notes and intervals in major or minor keys. You should be able to figure out the rest from there.

BTW, there's an outside chance that your song could be in another mode (i.e., other than major or minor), but unlikely, so don't worry about that for now.

You obviosuly are not a musician. Give up now.

go check out the biggest selling producers and then see their prior musical knowledge. You would be surprised by how many now absolutely nothing about music , well music talked about in some sort of formal way.

Learn basic music theory

I also knew nothing about music theory when I started, and I still cant play the piano for

But I can identify root notes and major and minor scales quite easily through experience

Selling lots doesnt mean its any good musically. Its not all about money. Like New York City by alex morph was number one for a while maybe it still is idk, and it is amazing in terms of the musicality. But 85% of the other top 100 trance is e.
