I mean, they do an OK job trying to cater to everyone - whether you're a teeny bopper just wanting to party and buy the ticket without giving a about who's on the bill, or you're a more seasoned enthusiast. EDC Orlando took way too long to release any information about who was performing, which doesn't affect the teeny bopper who doesn't care and angers the enthusiast who wants further information before committing. As a result, the enthusiast waits for more information and has to pay much more when they find out. that .

I didn't go simply for the fact that it costs way too much for way too little music that I would ultimately enjoy. I'm paying $10 to go see Three, J Philip, and CVS this Thursday. With how unorganized the ticketing process is and how expensive they are after all is said and done, I'll take a club night any day of the week. I absolutely love the productions at the festivals, but I love the music more. If I have to subject myself to waiting for lineups (let alone who's actually just coming) and paying out more just to see some lights, then I'm going to pass every time. Add all those other extra charges when you go to EDC and you have to ask yourself how worthwhile is it, really?

To each their own, I suppose. Although I love festivals, I'd rather just go see one or two DJs spin for the whole night at a club than fork out my left nut to attend an unorganized light show.

Apples to oranges. You're comparing a massive festival with top-notch production and atmosphere to a Tampa club event. Those club events can be a lot of fun but to me, those experiences are a-dime-a-dozen. Yeah, maybe the crowd is more educated and mature, but the energy is definitely not the same. And yeah, I kind of agree with Faceplant re: peoplewatching. You see all sorts of crazy ass people out there (to include EDM chicks dressed in some wild costumes) -- that's all part of the festival experience. You don't get that at Kennedy or Jackson's (unless it's Gasparilla). Just the epic scale of the stages is exhilarating.

Now is EDC overpriced, yes, of course it is. Lots of is in this scene. Yeah, Treehouse is $10 but you live in Tampa. Go down there and you'll spend a bunch of money on gas, hotel, expensive SoBe drinks. You basically have to make an entire weekend out of it. $$$$

CVS at Kennedy will be a good time, I have no doubts, man is one of the most fun DJs I've ever seen. But let's not start saying that is a better event to go to than Neon Garden at EDC Orlando, because it's simply not true. If Orlando/Tampa had better clubs and more top-quality DJs on a routine basis, then maybe EDC could be avoided, but short of going to Miami for some bad-ass , it's the best option.

I read through all that. Your opinion - cool.

But I had to highlight this quote.

Sorry, but I prefer a club night to a festival at this time in my life. At least with a club show I can pick and choose the who and where. In most cases the show is cheap. Yes, I sacrifice certain elements like stage production that I enjoy at festival shows, but in the end I get a more intimate overall show. It's all subjective, anyways. I dig the dark vibe of the club.

Apples and oranges, brah...

I just want to know how you know what their finances are. How do you have any clue as to what their revenue and expenses were? It's hard to imagine they didn't make any money. They've been in Orlando in 2011 and 2012 for the same festival -- if the thing doesn't make money, why would they keep holding them each year? Attendance was at least as good as last year, if not better. Remember they make a lot of money off concessions as well.

I don't know exact numbers and I didn't say he lost, I just said he didn't make alot. He is just promoting for the big one...EDC Vegas(the road to Vegas 2014). I happen to be friends with some of PR's staff. a few of my friends had to go there.

honestly depends on the festival... id much rather have a dutch festival like awakenings over a night at set in miami. obviously this an over exaggeration to make a point but yea it always depends.

sometimes i love the festival vibe and wanna run around all day. sometimes i want to be at a club, find a spot, plant a flag, and stay there all night.

theres so many different variables at play that the two cant really be compared.

Perfectly Stated. Then there are those in between moments like Tiesto's Kaleidoscope set at UCF Arena (the first one). It was a smaller arena, but an arena all the same, and was a completely awesome huge big show vibe.

So the question remains... For a true trance lover what are my festival/big show options? What does the future hold for true trance (or as Solarstone calls it, Pure Trance), at festivals. I hypothesize that with the newer generation paying the festivals off nicely $$ with the trouse scene, that it won't be changing until there is turnover in listening genre.

Nothing in central Florida. You have to go to Gryphon, Space, or Story in south Fla, or fly out to NYC or Chicago. I guess Ultra COULD book some good trance but that thing is $$$$$$. Or if you wanna really do it right, fly out to Amsterdam or London. Plenty of really good trance/progressive events there. Sure, Orlando and Tampa might get a big show featuring a watered down Paul Van Dyk, Markus Schulz, Armin, etc. But I don't think that's what you're looking for since those guys play like garbage in such settings in the US.

I understand your position John...I just don't understand why you're crusading against EDC in an EDC thread. Especially right after everyone posted their (positive) reviews. And again, it's not like I dislike the club events.

Trance has went the way of mudd jeans. Out of style if you live in fl you have a cpl options... Go to wmc and see the 1 good trance show there 2. Wait for the once or twice a year joc or some other decent trance act has a show at space and deal with the trance family of loosers or 3. Go see acts such as Aly And fila at Firestone and de with an orlando set that is usually sub par and a bad crowd.

For these reasons many of us have started changing out taste in music ie tech house, deep tech, deep house.

Talking about that tiesto ucf show man did I have a blast there. The good ol days when he even played trance are long gone.

And orangesto we posted months ago rumors and who we heard was playing and 90% of that was dead on. A few people on here get inside news or follow people's social media so its worth taking a listen.

I'll never change my taste just because what others or your favs play. I'l always stick true to the game and never change.

Art department killing . This was my fav part of the night. Sorry bout the ty quality but my wifi in my house is not working had to upload it ty quality

I was amazed that these guys played what they played. Real on the edge stuff I would not expect to hear in orlando. The elec guitar, the trumpet.... That song put me in another place. Got a bunch more vids of them dropping some crazy tracks but don't want to bore ppl with crap quality.
