Atheists are oppressed but I don't think there's a single atheist out there that would even remotely imply that they have it as bad as a "Jew in 1938 Berlin."
Atheists are constantly bombarded by crap like this, and yes, plenty of atheists are idiots about it and handle it poorly, but when an oppressed minority has a vocal few it appears to look like they represent all of them.
Same reason everybody seems to think every gay guy is flamboyant, every black guy is "ghetto," etc, etc.
There should be no mention of God anywhere outside of a religious privately funded school... send your kids there if you want them to learn about your particular religious flavour. State institutions should be secular.
I'm sure this oath wasn't actively written to single out Atheists, and I'm sure their intentions were good, but it's thoughtless and irresponsible. |
