Any smart Atheist would just say the words and get it over with, maybe even smirk after the say them or have their fingers crossed behind their back while saying.

This reminds me of the lesbian senor in high school that wasn't allowed to take her girlfriend to prom and got into some legal issue with the high school so the prom was canceled and ruined for all other senors. All her and her girlfriend had to do was go alone and hang out and dance. Girls dance together all the time so no one would have given a but she ruined it for all others and then Ellen gave her a bunch of thousands to go to her college choice.

Clearly to discriminate against atheists specifically.

Yes, yes it is, despite your belief that it's not.

It sounds to me more of something they came up for graduates to bring back that old American "Do something for your God and Country" type of aspect. You know most the old time Americans look at the younger generation as lazy compared to them.

"You are not equal." That is what it says. Why should you just have to accept unequal treatment for the benefit of others? And frankly it's not like she went in with the intention of having prom cancelled for the rest of the students. She stood up for herself. It's the same as "civil unions" not being the same as marriage. It isn't the same even with the same benefits. It's segregation. Think about it this way: what if interracial couples were only allowed to have "civil unions?"

"Why do you need to use MY water fountain when you still have a water fountain? Trying to use it got both removed by the administration. You should have just dealt with it!"

You raise a good point. I didn't mean to come off as harsh because she did stand up for her rights! I meant it more as a situation that wasn't worth fighting because the majority of people would be against her views. I was just comparing the two with the point that sometimes you can just do things with the flow instead of making a big deal out of something small and still get what you want in the end. If she had just went stag and her girlfriend as well, they could have danced the night away. I guess I would have to be in a situation like that to see what I would do but I'm generally not a person to make waves despite my beliefs.

You seriously think that the people who came up with this had a meeting and were like "hmm how can we discriminate against atheists?" and then came to the conclusion of "I know, we'll put the word God in their oath just like "almost every other oath, song, etc. that has anything to do with this country."
looom
god bless the atheists
wait a sec..

exactly, the old God and Country thing. It's not some NWO scheme. lol

That's some serious paranoia to think this was specifically aimed at discriminating against atheists. Maybe if they forced you to answer if you believed in God or not and if you said no you couldn't graduate, but having everyone say the oath is clearly not aimed at discriminating against anyone in particular.

I agree that it's not aimed at discriminating against a particular group. The problem though is that it does.
