Out of curiosity, and though I guess you're a little young to have played these when they were released; did you play UFO/X-COM or System Shock? If you did, did you enjoy them?

I'm very much an ex-gamer as well, and I totally agree with your point about games being interactive movies. My first gaming love was my Dad's old 486, circa 1994. I never played System Shock sadly, but I did play X-COM (I still have a working version on my laptop), and many other classics from that era: Doom, C&C, Warcraft, Day Of The Tentacle, Little Big Adventure, X-Wing/TIE Fighter, Magic Carpet, Theme Park... I can talk all day long about how videogames have completely gone to . I just felt like sticking up for the critics, because I've been in their shoes on enough occasions.

Jack do you have a PS3 or 360?
SYSTEM-J
My housemate has both, but I don't use them.

My posts pretty much take the piss out of all game critics. I guess I could have mentioned I'm very biased and don't read the reviews because their opinions on good/bad differ so much from mine. Then again it's no fun being reasonable all the time. I just felt like generalizing and making huge overstatements with little base in reality.

You made a lot of good points and I stand corrected.

And me now I only have 1 hour left on my deadline for work. Damn you internet, damn you to hell! At least I don't have GTA V to procrastinate with.

GTA4 was awesome, and with the amount of money put into GTAV I wouldn't expect anything less. I'm definitely picking it up this weekend.

If you ever get a chance, you should check out a game called Vanquish. It's about 8 hours long and kind of old school in the sense that there are really no pretensions, it's just straight up action, super super tight and incredibly fun. Got rave reviews all around too. I think you would actually like it a lot.

GTA V looks great, I just hope it doesn't feel like a port.

It's not, each platform had it's own developed. The PS3 version runs fairly smooth from what I've seen.

Wow, I never saw that review of that Aliens game. I was hoping it was going to be good(kinda knew it wasn't) as it's one of my favorite movies.

Anyways I'm typically an old school gamer but I usually find myself playing those artistic games i.e. Journey. Sure this game has hype but what doesn't nowadays. It's still a good game although I will agree with games being interactive movies more so. Radio stations are pretty cool and has two EDM stations...I was stunned when I heard Windowlicker.

please do. i'd be interested in your commentary. considering that i will probably disagree :) i think PC gaming in particular has never been more awesome or healthier, especially given the popularity of crowd funding.

I'm not reading any of the goddamn shill reviews, but will be getting the game as I've had it on pre-order for like 2 years now.

I just hope it doesn't have:

-cell phone where you have to call your "friends" and go bowling, eating, watching shows, etc
-gyms and retarded "sex appeal" stats, getting fat from eating too much, etc

Any time any of that came up I was like "why don't I just do this IRL?" and put the game down. :whip:
