In my opinion, if it's not portable and console-agnostic, it doesn't interest me. I don't have time to sit-around and play video-games all day. The industry acknowledges this pertinent fact, and that is why today's we're at an arms-race to develop for mobile phones and tablets.

no, devs are in an "arms race" for those platforms because they can reach a (new) wider audience, one that traditionally never played games before.

That's certainly part of it, but I think it's predominantly due to the near-ubiquitous overlap of social media technology into daily living, of which mobile devices are obvious key facilitators, which makes mobile gaming something of an incredibly accessible- and oftentimes, non-committal- activity that you can enjoy within a context of social networking. That's why so many of these games have a social component engineered into them, even if it's a tacked-on afterthought; it's simply the dominant tech-trend of the day.

While it was no San Andreas, GTA4 did not have terrible music.
But if you think that droney sarcastic they played on Journey was good, then I can understand how you'd make such a statement :P
Plus, the radio stations are all about the talking. LAZLOOOOW!

If you think about it, GTA 4 doesn't have any feel good music, not like san andreas or vice city.
Syntonic
The selection for GTAIV was indeed, this time it's pretty good...heard Stardust - Music Sounds Better With You. Radio Mirror Park is also decent with a lot of synth heavy rock.

My fav GTA track.

The best song for any intense chases in IV was boys noize "& down"

I think the reason that AAA games tend to get unanimous high scores is primarily because gaming genres aren't nearly as fragmented as movies or music is. Most people who play a fair few games will tend to enjoy some rpgs, some fps, some action etc. Gaming websites also tend to average things out a bit so that they're just never likely to publish bad reviews of a good game. It'd be a bit problematic if game websites that only have one review per game gave a game that most people would like a low score because the reviewer didn't like a minor detail.

With that said, there's some interesting reviewers out there that tend to give more varied scores. So if it's really that big of an issue you can just go and find some that are like that. Seeing what Yahtzee and Out of 8 gaming think of things can be fairly insightful. It also really depends on the site as to what it's good for. I only ever use gamespot when I'm pretty sure I want to buy a game and I want to feel good about it for instance. That's pretty much all they're good for (they've also been in a few scandals over corruption as well).
