I dunno, I just can't get into that sound as much as some of you guys :conf: thought tINI was boring at Space last WMC...
Would like to see some more South American DJs in Miami, can't get enough of that sound. Gui Boratto, DJ Anna, Wehbba, etc... |

I used to be all about the techno scene and wanted nothing more than banging the whole time. CLR, Minus, Drumcode all put on great parties.... and I still enjoy those shows. But there's something soooo much better about going to see a good deep house artist/team and listening to them build and absolutely blow your mind.
Tale of Us and Guy Gerber are the BEST in the game at building a vibe. The best part of these artists is how trippy and melodic they can get at times as they build towards the more banging stuff. If you listen to Tale of Us you'll hear some hard stuff. They've been dropping Fitzpatrick's "Skeksis" since WMC. But it's the journey to get to that track is what's awesome about them.
Go see Gerber, Tale of Us, Maceo Plex, and my lord did Art Department slay EDC. Damian Lazarus is another.
The tech house scene is so generic these days. The only one in that scene that really does it for me is Luciano, and that's because he's so bassline driven, just like the deeper guys mentioned above.
Just my .02 but a weekend of Gerber and Tale of Us is spot on for a proper Basel weekend. |

| Oh yeah forgot, Matthew Dear is joining Gerber at Treehouse. Dear (Audion) is ridiculous live... this party is a must. |

I mean I like like a lot of the stuff -- but to me, some of those sets are TOO diverse and TOO eclectic. One guy that I do like that is extremely diverse and eclectic is Francois K. His talent is obvious, and he's just sickening.
But given a choice, I wouldn't go to one of those above parties over say, Richie Hawtin at Story. No way.
Hey, different strokes I guess. I like a lot of deep house tracks, a lot of dub-tech tracks, but as far as sets go, meh...I'm picky as to what I like. And yeah, a lot of tech-house is generic, but I have a hard time being entertained by such eclectic tracklists as well.
I guess I'm more simple. Give me a big room with Carl Cox, Diggers, Beyer, Loco Dice, Joris Voorn, etc and I'm happy. Small rooms are cool too if the music's banging. Just a fan of the more driving, slightly faster sound...
Hope I didn't lose too many "cool" points with this post...:toothless |
