Finding a Job

Well..it's about that time. Time for me to enter the real world. That is, the place where you can't stay up until 7am listening to Tiesto-Fly on repeat in your head phones while chewing your face off, popping e pill after e pill. It's a sad day, i know. I'm not prepared for this.
Grown up people of TA - I have great respect for many of you. Teach me the ways of adulthood. How do I find a job?
I know this post sounds kind of troll-ish because of how flippant I come off about the whole thing. I'm actually sort of ed up about this whole ordeal though. Feel worthless. I took longer to graduate than I should have (I graduated at the beginning of this past summer- spent some time travelling afterward) and now I feel unemployable. I have a resume worked out that I'll gladly post for some feedback, and have a general idea of what I'd like to do -- my key conviction in life right now (that is, aside from popping e pillz while listening to 'fly') is an environmental one, so I'd like to work in that field. My degree is in economics, though. How do I find open jobs to apply for? How should I go about applying for them?
I think this process has been really stressful for me because 1) I hate the idea of pimping myself out 2) I'm repulsed by how the whole job-hunt thing seems to require that you put on a fake facade and try your best to whore yourself out....Maybe these are mental issues I can't handle for whatever reason. Whatever the case may be, I'm turning to tranceaddict for help. Yes. I am that desperate.
All kidding aside, I do miss you guys, and I do believe that I'll get some good advice here. Hope all is well. |

Step 1: get a job.
Step 2: profit. |

honestly, if your parents are rich and willing, go to grad school on their dime for something you actually enjoy doing, or start your own business.
the corporate world sucks. it crushes your soul, kills your creativity, and if you're not careful, will turn you into a drone by the time you're 30.
i'm exaggerating, but only slightly. |

unfortunately the workplace even with education is arranged in a way in that you are constantly moving up which is good but if you haven't taken your late teens to start working the ty jobs , you will find yourself working entry positions unless you have done something that kinda sets you apart.
so ya, work somewhere with advancement, don't expect to make money, and for a drug addict, surely 7am is not really reaching for the stars is it now. |

lol!
Big part of finding jobs is 'who you know', start calling in favours from friends, their parents and your own relatives. Then expect to start at the bottom of whatever it is. |

| I'd also recommend picking up a part time job while you're looking. It will help your psyche. Sitting at home waiting breeds depression and desperation. Neither will serve you well in an interview. Lilith had good advice. |

Get off your ing ass and go look.
Not trying to be an , but come on man.
EDIT: The best thing you can do is work on your resume. When I graduated, I put together a resume and it was ing atrocious. To be honest, I didn't know what I was doing besides organizing my experience. I was never taught to put together a resume in the army or school, so once I stepped into the job market I was far behind. Luckily I was contracted to write a book by a guy who ran a resume business. This dude made a living making resumes for CEOs and such. Anyways, he taught me the right way to put together a resume. After I came home from Europe, I applied that and found a job relatively quickly. Biggest thing I can say about that is to use as many numbers as possible to exemplify what you've done and what you can do. If you need help, hit me up. More than happy to help out if need be. |
