Wow, this thread is bloody, and when there's a bloody thread I feel I must lend my opinion. First of all, I would never call a style of trance ; I might not enjoy it, but I respect everyone's opinion where trance is concerned. Secondly, Pepi did get a bit crazy with his bashing of progressive, and I certainly won't go there.
However, I too am quite unhappy with the current trance trend. I realize that progressive is unfortunately the future of trance, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's a good thing for everybody. After reading through your responses to his initial post, I find that you completely disrespect his style of trance almost as much as he yours. He thinks progressive is boring, unmusical, and repetitive. You think epic/melodic trance is boring, cheesy and repetitive. People who don't like trance think trance as a whole is boring, unmusical, cheesy, and repetitve. See any similarities? The bottom line is: people who don't like a certain type of music will never understand those who do, and vice versa. I, for instance, completely miss the meaning of rap. Hearing a country song does not make me want to gather my friends for a bit of line dancing, instead, it causes me to run screaming from the room. However, I know many people who listen to these styles of music that can't for the life of them figure out why everybody isn't pimping out their Ford, or buying a cowboy hat.
I admit that what Pepi said isn't fair to all of you that listen to progressive trance. But rather than feeling anger, feel his pain. I'm pretty sure most of us here (with the exception of our European brothers and sisters) can identify with loving a style of music, only to end up sitting at home on a Friday night because all of the local clubs are playing R&B. Add to it that it's a new year, and most of the trance tracks produced aren't to his liking. I'm sure most everyone can understand where he's coming from. I'm certainly not defending his actions, just his thoughts.
Anyway, I've rambled on long enough, so I'll leave you with just one last thought. When Armin, Corsten, Tiesto, Gielen, Stigma, Fijneman, Holte, Jamie etc all start spinning all progressive sets, then yes, I'll admit that my beloved melodic trance is dead. Untill then, I'll keep feeling what I feel; I wouldn't trade you for the world. And ya know what? I'll bet you wouldn't trade me either :). |

Trance, Epic Trance, Techno, Progressive...
Everybody has its own rite...?
But from my point of view, its got a lot to do with where u come from. A lot of u peeps live in Canada or America, and me is from Holland.
Here the traxx are mainly played towards the Techno, and I really like it. As i said, everybody has his or her own, coz i REALLY like those repetitive and steady melodies, beats, and basslines. Last year Innercity, i heard Paul van Dijk, Remy, Marco V, Jean, and a whole lot more, and it was all kinda techno. But when u see a liveset for example in Israel, they all tend to play towards that epic trance, and wavey sounds. More relaxin. It all has to do with where u live, and ofcourse, your own taste of trancemusic...
Peace Out |

This is trance??
It sounds to be like a repetitive beat with no melody whats so ever and no buildups....
For those of you that like this progressive
how in the hell do you get excited and pumped when all you hear is a beat and some overused samples from 4000 other progressive tracks that are all the same through the entire track
Frankly Im quite pissed because I see this pattern in alot of sets these days
I dont know if people are on heavy drugs when they listen to this crap I know I would have to be to even find this type of music slightly interesting...
But the bottom line is its repetitive, steady beat, no buildups or melodies just pure !!!!!
sorry about all the negativity but I had to get this off my chest......this type of music bugs me even more than dark and hard trance or as I think its called NUNRG or something
Anyhow epic trance rules it makes people happy, brings shivers up and down your spine during a good buildup or melody and definetly gets the croud pumped where ever you go.
I sure as hell hope Acsession 17 is not like Tonic was or else I will be really pissed...
Its bad enough that this damn city ( Toronto ) doesnt have a single club that spins trance....unless you want to go to Space or hear some "Love shines through" every weekend at Guv and Meow followed by 8 straight hours of ass house music..... this city pisses me off sometimes HOUSE AND HOUSE AND MORE HOUSE !!!!!!!!!!
Peace to all take this thread as a little angry dude inside my body that has been waiting a long time to get out
See you all at Acsession 17 CIAO |
Holy crap man....another spoiled Toronto partykid. If you think your city sucks, try moving somewhere else where the trance selection is *nothing* and then you can bitch. Toronto has some of the best nights out there....
And in regards to Max Graham....obviously you don't like progressive, so don't take it out on one of the most popular up and coming dj's out there. He will be the biggest dj in the scene in 1-2 years.

Max Graham is already a big dj, and if he gets more popular, good for the dude!! I dunno what to say, I like epic and wuz trying to find some new good epic tunes (I've been listening to the same ol for a while now in epic, and I think u peepz can agree with me).. can anyone tell me if theres a new good epic tune out there??? There's like none!!! I rather listen to progressive, there's much better stuff going on in this area of trance and house so why wouldn't djs spin it!! errr it's too early in the morn to make sense!!! We all have our own tastes tho in music, I like tunes that aren't too "epic" and ones that aren't too "progressive" either... like today I listened to Sven Vath's Barberalla (deep dish mix), didn't listen to it in a while, and I was like holy !! this is perfect!! tunez like Airtight, Horizons, Sparc, etc etc are perfect... No wonder djs are turning progressive, this is where the quality's at... peeps are making epic for the hell of it right now, all sounds the same and boring as hell!!!
I dunno that's my opinion... but dude who started the thread, no one forces u to like anything...
latez... |
