Hi, Trance lovers!
I need your help!!! Because I have created a Dance track. And the reason why I call it a Dance track is that I am not really sure in what category to put it in. That is why I decided to ask you guys. The reason why I want to know this is because people said to me that I should send this song to record labels. But I don't know where to start looking for Record labels with this type of sound.
Some say it is Progressive Trance others say it is Progressive House, People even mentioned Detroit Techno and Tech-Trance. I just simply Call it Rjen Music. But unfortunately there are no label that specializes in Rjen Music ;) And that is why I would like to hear what you think and tell me what genre this song belongs to.
I would also like to hear if you think that sounding a bit different is a good thing or a bad thing? Because when I listen to other producers I notice they are very much concerned about what sounds are popular right now. And other producers are busy trying to copy those sounds. Should I do the same and go with the flow because releases might become easier and because this sells? Or should I just do my own thing? Because that way you might stand out from the crowd and you got a better chance to get noticed? Sorry I know these are a lot of questions. But that just means it is a great topic for a forum Right?
So what song am I actually talking about? Well I made a special Youtube version because I also made a video for it. Hope you guys can help me and that you will like the song. If you do then please also leave a comment on youtube and share the video it with your friends!

| Yea this is surprisingly nice. Honestly I'd drop the vocals though. I'd say this falls quite safely in the prog category. |

Ya good track. It has a bit of an old school flavor yet still fresher sounding. It's not as unique as you make it out to be though. Although most house is down around the 120-125 bpm range these days. I don't know much about music above that bpm anymore.
As for what music to make? The music that you love. I think it's ok to copy other's sounds because was is truly original anyways? But if you're gonna imitate a style, at least love that style as well, but do it just because it's popular. |

| Nice track! However, I would take out that Hispanic sounding vocal, if I was you. It sounds kinda cheesy (in the annoying way) and takes away from your song. I personally would replace it with another vocal... |

| I was disappointed when I read all this BS about how unique your sound is and how hard it was for you to think of a genre for it. It's just prog sounding trance go away its not special or even very good |

Something in between progressive trance and progressive house sounds right. But after listing to your other tracks I would pick progressive trance.
Keep it cheesy :)
(and make a dub version for the others)
Maar ik denk dat je heel goed weet hoe je het moet noemen ;) |

Greetings Rjen.
You might look into releasing via a label on Bandcamp:
http://bandcamp.com/
On that site you can use a multitude of "tags" that can help people find your music more quickly. |

| I hate it when grown ass man talk like puberts trying to appear innocent and make rhetorical questions. |

| Don't get me wrong, Rjen. I still like the song, and I would try it in a set even with the vocals. :) |

| It's okay. Sounds like the early "Miami sound" progressive trance from Marcus Schulz and Probspot circa 2004, before it all merged with Armada trance. |

Yes, sounds very much like mid-00s era Holden/Schulz twinkle prog. This track would not sound out of place on a Balance compilation.
And not bad at all. I enjoyed it.
To answer your question: Never be a slave to trends. Just make the music you want to make, and what anyone else is doing. |
