| since 2006 i have always used Audiojelly as a source of discovering new artists, releases, labels etc, and have always used this to purchase the tracks. But Audiojelly closed down in February for undisclosed reasons. i have tried to use beatport as a replacement but i really dont like beatport as its over complicated and stupidly over priced. any suggestions people ? I do regularly check label websites for releases but it's not the same... i need my trance fix and i need help people ! :( |

| Beatport is really not complicated at all. I'd advise reading this guide on how to improve your Beatport searches. The price is steep, but you can offset that by searching Google for Beatport discount codes or for buying tracks on cheaper platforms (Amazon MP3, for example, carries much of Beatport's catalogue but for as little as half the price). |

Find the djs you like, listen to their podcasts. You will hear all e new stuff. It is much more effective than going thru at load of really bad music
Once you start to understand the producers, you kinda start developing a map of related producers mixers, labels and you are able to search re effectively.
But step a should be to find a few good radio shows. |

If you don't like Beatport then just buy @ http://www.junodownload.com ;)
I follow some labels on Beatport to explore new music. |

I do find 'new' old track, which I never heard before at Discogs and the Youtube vids in there. The aliases and variations often are very surprising. Yesterday I found a great track from 1995. I'll post it after making a vid for Youtube as it was only release on vinyl and just at three cd compilations.
I can't keep up with new tracks, so I guess I'm always behind...
Some who make mixes provide me with more tracks than I can listen. |

| I mainly go to underground shows to find new music. I'm always listening closely to the DJ and seeing what they're into. Each DJ has a special mindset that is devoted to music -- by using them as a vessel I can find out what's real and fresh in the scene. |

Beatport + Last.fm + Youtube = One really happy Lira.
I don't understand what can be frustrating about Beatport... even if it fails to show a single subgenre of my favourite genre (drum'n'bass). I've bought so much music there the website probably reckons I'm a DJ by now :p |

Oh, one more thing: If you've got a Facebook account, follow your favourite labels and artists there as well.
(Yeah, I know, double post, but I clicked "post reply" instead of "edit" and can't be arsed to hit the back button :p) |

I hardly pay attention to anything released these days unfortunately, because of Armada's domination, it's difficult to find anything worthwhile because they will completely flood every music distribution site with pretentious commercial tunes...
If you're looking to discover older trance however, I'd recommend the following compilation series:
- D.Trance
- Dream Dance
- RaveBase
- Rave Now
- Trancemaster
- World Of Trance
A lot of these will provide you with a good amount of different styles. Another thing is find a track you like on youtube, and just keep cycling through suggested vids on the side. I hate admitting this, but my first "exposure" to trance was through DJ Mystik's mixes...there's generally a blend of trance, eurodance & happy hardcore on his mixes...he actually has pretty decent taste in trance tunes, so you'll pick up some good ones there. He's real hit or miss though, but good for entry level stuff; the one big problem with him though is that he doesn't give credit to the artists, but I'm working on ID'ing a bunch of his mixes now. Definitely give those compilation series a try though, there's plenty of good tracks to be found on them.:) |
