If Eric Prydz can do it...... (pg. 2)

The Electronic scene in Europe is so much more evolved then the scene here in the United States.... Especially Southern California.. I honestly don't understand the -tastic booking that takes place at Edc almost every year. Look at the lineup that Mysteryland had booked here in the States, half of the lineup was devoted to strictly Techno and House whilst the other half was devoted to "edm"

To give you another example here are a couple festivals in Europe during the month of April:

Snow Bombing:

DGTL:

Time Warp:

Demf has pulled over 100k people to their festival the past 3 years with lineups like this:

I guess you win.

But then again, I hate techno so not really.

I was merely comparing Prydz to Cox and Digweed from a booking perspective. You aren't going to pressure any of them to play what they don't want to play. And they aren't going to feel pressure to play the big drop EDM .

Haha pretty much 2 of the biggest names in techno

They do seem to like their techno. Europe does have more than it's fair share of ty festival music too but they have a lot more options that balance it out.

Eric prydz has probably changed more than anyone in the top 100 rankings. Don't you remember that ultra classic call on me!? That's when he was at his peak, been steadily going down since. Check out youtube video hits as evidence.

You guys also gotta remember that once you get to an Armin or Tiesto level, you go from becoming a simple "dj" to a company with many mouths to feeds. So the bigger you become, the more business minded decisions you gotta make. Tiesto & Armin are the perfect example of a business minded DJ's.

I actually got bored during his set and left back to the Neon Garden stage. Probably had to do with hearing the same tracks of his over and over again.

Last year Fehrplay had to finish his set at Space during MMW because he got pulled off the decks after the 3rd time he played "Sweet Dreams" by the Eurythmics. Rumor was that he was ed up that night too ...

How is that not still selling out? That is practically the definition - rather than make decisions about their music/sound they are letting 'business/success (money)' reasons their priority. That is selling out no matter how you cut it.

I guess you could argue that armin/tiesto actually like the new they are playing, but lol if so...

I never said it wasn't selling out. I actually meant to say that they sold out to keep their business alive. Just look at the staff picture Armin posted. That's a lot of people he has to pay and that's not everyone in his payroll. If he was to "keep it real," I highly doubt he would make enough to pay them all. He would still get bookings, but not of the same caliber nor the same pay.

if any of you were given the opportunity to get paid $100,000 to play what they want vs $1,000 to play what you want, every single user of this forum would play what they want. 100%. Absolutely no doubt about it. So everyone get off your high horse.

We listeners are such back seat drivers its sickening. Just listen to what you want and give it a rest.

For me, Prydz is like the middle ground. When he came over to the States I was so happy/excited to catch his sets...but after a few times it was more or less the same and the magic disappeared. He's preferable to other EDM names but definitely not in a class of Digweed or Cox, who are guys that I still get excited to see even after 100x. Although I think it's a bit of an apples and oranges comparison as Diggers and Cox tend to focus more on DJing new/abstract/other material while Prydz pretty much plays out his own stuff. What separates Prydz' though (IMO) is the quality of his productions - the dude has an arsenal of bombs that are distinctly his sound that are different enough to separate from the rest but also dancefloor/commercial friendly enough to involve a huge crowd of tens of thousands...Middle ground. Good for him!

I felt the same way about Prydz. Super excited to see him but it's all blah!!

I wouldn't because I don't DJ (and have zero desire to do so). Apparently you think everyone is or wants to be a DJ. The point of this thread is not everyone sells out.

Or that some people can still reach a certain level of monetary success while still creating and playing what they love...

Not talking about Prydz here though lol
