If Eric Prydz can do it...... (pg. 4)

To chime in from the east coast, he played two EPIC shows last fall (think it was Thanksgiving) in NYC that was not only almost completely identical both nights, but nearly the absolute same set he played the prior year in the fall. There's no denying his production talent/visuals are over the top, but he most certainly has dulled things down when he moved over here.
I think he needs to just hit the studio a bit more or try playing under his Cirez D moniker more. Think thats a different story.
Last bit of note, though a bit dated now that Cirez D/Laser Beam mashup that he has perfectly timed with lasers going off is absolutely awesome. Everytime all the time |

Did Armin sell out before or after he was voted #1 on DJ Mag? Maybe he didn't have to shift from Trance to Big Room House to keep business alive. There are plenty of demand for Trance. I don't understand why the public perception is Trance is dead or Trance is some how beneath House. |
it was right around the same time.
in 2007/2008 he was still playing trance, for the most part.
it's just the EDM explosion which happened right around that time-frame that pretty much ruined trance. |

I used to follow him back in 2006-2010, and he has definitely evolved to a more mainstream sound comparatively. |
i've never gotten into Eric Prydz, so his sound was definitely different than the rest of the mainstage EDC dj's, not to say it hasn't changed, but i just never listened to him other than a few Cirez D stuff here and there. |

prydz's productions have gone so much downhill you can compare him to his older self and see he sucks. he used to actually play other peoples music at some point now its just crap off his labels, which has lost all magic.
a comment on the festivals : i hate half the orders, dettmann before beyer and carl? come on ! hell id have dettmann close over liebing. richie has lost all techno, consider drumcode minus, sci+tec all tech house at this point. not to say i hate that stuff. mainly use that stuff for progressive sets (drum code). DJs like hernan and digweed always amaze, carl doesn't disappoint. i can't say the same for sasha though. prydz out of the four times I've seen him he's been good once.
labels like 1605, deeperfect, octopus, and i guess drum code have this 'big room' kind of vibe which appeals to more crowds then say ostgun tun, mote evolver, MDR. dub fire is kind of a middle ground too, a lot of people like those grooves and go to the EDM stages at festivals as well. richie's marketing pretty much makes him a house hold name, b2b with deadmau5 and all that stuff.
and this deep house overload ! a bunch of guys making the same warped bass line and all songs have the same feel and structure(kind of like EDM). thats come out of the underground too, didn't jamie jones play in vegas? richie did for sure. carl and deep dish have residencies now!
and for armin I've seen him two or three times and it was a bunch of Jesus poses with like watered down trance, idk what to call it, it wasn't that big room crap but it was sure cheesy. |

LOL. this thread hurts.
first off - comparing eric prydz to sasha and diggers? OUCH.
second off - someone here thinks chris liebing and marcel dettman aren't up to par to hawtin? ROFL.
first off, richie hawtin is the absolute most commercial "underground" DJ there is. for f*cks sake - is there any brand being pushed more in our faces the enter? weekly residency in ibiza, pop up parties at every festival, social media everywhere. good lord, there is nothing underground about hawtin and while he is milking his brand, chris liebing and marcel dettman are DEMOLISHING dance floors everywhere. i'm pretty sure dettman and klock are the premiere residents at berghain, you know, that little 'ol club in berlin that's considered the mecca of all things techno in the world. richie barely even tries anymore, anyone who's been following him for a long time knows that. for guys like him, it's about milking his brand and pushing some new artists to become huge by being under his name (nothing wrong with that, just the reality). richie has done more for the scene than just about anyone, but today, i'd rather see guys like liebing/dettman who are on top of their game anytime over richie.
and the only reason eric prydz is successful here despite not being "typical edm" is because he is the "cool" DJ to like. don't you guys know that in the states, it's all about keeping up with fads and doing whatever the cool thing is. 10 years ago it was liking little wayne. now it's like EDM. but since that gets a bad wrap, liking eric prydz gives you "credibility" because he's so "different" and "best producer ever" and "not big room".
i think EP is a fantastic producer/DJ but stopped paying attention to him 3 years when he moved here because the downfall was evident. not as big of a joke as armin or ferry but he's still playing accessible main stage music.
anyway, end /rant. not sure why we're wasting our time talking about all these guys who - like we said - do it for the money.
i'm going to go back to watching my marcel dettman videos from awakenings festival now :tongue2 |

no
while all of us TA's are old school and jaded. Richie Hawtin is still so far from commercial its hilarious to try and classify him as so. Hawtin will never be main stage or played on top 40 radio. While he is still popular with the "underground" and can fill an arena doesn't mean he is "commercial". The kids will dislike his music, it doesn't have big drops or cheese vocals, It isn't easily assessable and never will be IMO. |

From a commercial standpoint dettmann and liebing are way under hawtins ability to pull crowds, they play for his parties not the other way around. I dont think anyone in the thread said hawtin is a better musician then dettmann or liebing. |

| i'd say Adam Beyer plays much more house-ish/tech house than Richie nowadays. i have no preference just stating my thoughts on what i would describe what i hear from them. |

I was there and that main stage was half empty. Insomniac wanted to try something different that night and put Cox/Hawtin/Mark Knight on the main stage(albeit super early) . This didn't mean they played "main stage" music. |
