RA is good only when viewed at as a hub for general information about electronic music artists.
Their reviews and the minions that follow the site religiously are absolutely insufferable. I like how these days, they seem to concentrate solely on very experimental music. As if club music is beneath them.
But isn't club music what the scene is really supposed to be about after all? I mean that Kangding Ray CD is good and all but damn, can we put the focus back on actual parties and club music? Where it's supposed to be... |

| If you want to keep up with genuinely experimental music, you're still better off sticking with The Wire magazine. RA is for people who still want to go out and get ed up but also have a personality investment in being left-of-centre. |

It's like some kind of weird full circle phenomenon.
First they ditch anything that seems remotely "cheesy" or overtly emotional in favor of arid, dark techno and subtle "deep" stuff.
I guess now the thing to avoid is seeming too "serious" or "pretentious," so they go full on for (a different variety of) cheddar cheese. Which is probably supposed to be "ironic" in some sense. |
