I don't know if people really purposefully hide anything about themselves at all, I think most people are just oblivious/can't see through other people's bull very well. People in general act in all kinds of strange and inauthentic ways, and usually they don't realize themselves that they're doing it, or how/why they act the way they do.
I think only truly psychopathic and /or manipulative people consciously hide things about themselves from other people - obviously because it serves a very specific purpose for them. These kind of people have very calculated personalities.
There is this total psycho at my work - and it was blatantly obvious from the beginning that she was/is a whacko. Just about everyone befriended her, going out together and whatnot - and then eventually some happened between her and a group of girls and she was barred from being on hospital property and was off for quite a few months while she got back on meds or some .
A handful of us knew something like that would happen all along, and couldn't understand how nobody else saw it coming. But it's like I said - people are oblivious.
On one hand I tend to believe most people are inherently good and am fairly trusting - but on the other, I usually look for/notice the negative aspects of people's personalities first. I dunno, I really don't find most people very mysterious. People wear their motivations right out in the open whether they display them overtly or not. |

It seriously takes one to know one. I knew from day one that bitch was crazy and called her on it. She had like 10,000 posts in 6 months. That is some wacked out . The fact that she quickly moved into the online AND real life social circles of TA was really ing creepy. |

I don't think it's creepy, nor do I think she was or is a bad person. She's just like everyone else who wants to be accepted and fit in - do most people not want those things? She just went about it in a totally pathological way, and it's not like the lies she told were meant to hurt people. Realistically, a lot of people go to almost as extreme lengths to get people to like them.
I know it seems strange that I defend her now. I suppose part of me feels bad for outing her lies. But then perhaps that's the extent of her manipulation that somehow she is the victim in all of it, lol.
I can't stand liars. Just be honest and normal for 's sake.
edit: as for her "moving in" quickly into social groups in real life from TA - TOTA has always been like that. A large part of the old school TAs are immigrants/were new to TO back then, and it was a great way for people to make friends in the scene. It is a very accepting group of people who all basically did the same thing, so of course nobody would think it was creepy. |

Different cultures I guess. TA has always been really insular out here, we never had meet ups, nor did anyone really hang out in real life for whatever reason. We also had a ton of active and well known posters back in the day, all living within 30 miles of each other, yet almost none of us met up. I've met Idoru and Lews in the 10 years I've been on TA, and I'd have to go all the way to Montana for the next person I've met up with, so that doesn't even really count as far as the local scene goes.
I guess thats why it felt creepy. People that move that quickly in social circles in these parts tend to be looked at ladder climbers or something more negative.
Oh well. I still didn't like her, she was a total attention whore. |

I know Vlad IRL because he often hung out with my cousin, so I hung out with them sometimes. I think we were both away from TA by that time, though.
I was supposed to meet with Dj_Lord like several times, but it always fell through. This was way back when though, when this place was still poppin'. |
