| See? Perfect example. She felt that she had ALWAYS been Avana, and it's not that she changed into her, it's that she always WAS her...just all covered up by Adam. So she stripped Adam off and revealed her true self. |

I agree with this. Sure, people can adjust their thoughts, beliefs, attitudes, and behaviours - but does that really equal true change? |

I think of change more like peeling back and removing the layers of bull that have built up over the years, and unlearning all the crap that hides our true nature. |
:conf:
All that so-called bull over the years has had a hand in shaping our thoughts, beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors. I think change is learning that about your yourself and making the necessary...er, changes. |

| One thing I've learned is that motivation, inclination and desires come through change of behavior, not the opposite. |

Motivations and desires. Intention. Are those not the things that drive the rest of our behaviour? |
A little redundant no? Motivation and intention both stem from desire imo. |

| It's cyclic really. |

I would have thought they fall under "Thoughts, attitudes and beliefs". And do you really think your desires never change? I would have thought that's one of the most malleable parts of our personality. My desires as a 7 year old kid aren't going to be the same as a 17 year old, a 37 year old and a 77 year old. |

Huh? What about the desire to change your behavior?
Considering how difficult it is, you can't change anything about your being without a deep desire to do so. |

True, but as a 17 year old, a 37 year old and a 77 year old, some might. |

That's different. That's willpower I guess, but when you persist in the new behavior, your desire for the former one may diminish. This accords with what I mentioned. |
