Yes and no. You are what you are, you just get better at it with age.

First practical answer so far.

Well, you know your assessment is airtight when it falls in line with IGK's.

Since I know you're going to delete this soon, I'm quoting it for the archives. :)

No its actually very difficult. Its in fact still impossible to do so with our current understanding of the brain

And a little unromantic? Pffft.

Even if we did have a full understanding of the brain, i dont see why it has to be unromantic. This argument somehow reminds me of people clinging to religion because its comforting and not because its true. Its childish

According to psychiatrists, the genesis of the persona is done between 19-24, so basically the way you react/act at about that age will determine who you are. But without a shadow of a doubt can dramatic events change the way one sees life.

So, has the world as we know it changed or just evolved?

Make a track about it.

Lol, I love it when you ask an engineer to fathom the meaning of life. They'll tell you what OS is relates to.

I'm agreeing with SystemJ on this one, but one thing no one is mentioning is how we change due to predefined genetics over time. Sure we're products of our environments and experiences, but certain aspects are somewhat preprogrammed. I worked with someone who was an adopted twin. At age 21 she found her adopted sister and they arranged to meet.

They had grown up in completed different socioeconomic situations and on other sides of the country. The both wore the same top to their first meeting. It turned out they had interests in all the same sports, same literature and even had similar work interests. I freaked them both out.

Granted twins may be an acute example, but we all carry behavioral traits from our parents and grandparents regardless of nurture.

Do people change? yes. Everything from my desires to intentions to behaviour. I was clinically hyperactive as a kid to the point they wanted to put me on tranqs. I mellowed out by the time I was 20. Many fo the thing I wanted so badly in my teens I have no desire for now. Many of the things I wanted in my early 20's hold little interest now and things I want now were not even a consideration a few years ago.

Part of it is growing, but part are things we want to affect and can, and part of it is influence that we have no control over such as genetics or environment.
