Not really, as Armin also Tiesto got inspired by Ben Liebrand. Also I read that DJ Yves who made tracks together with Tiesto said that Tiesto never played gabber or hardcore, only did produce some tracks. He was very early into trance.

Dont get your hopes up, pretty positive this was released last year. It was a brief stint, brief as in one show. Afterwards he promptly returned to cheese and ear gnawing house and trance.

We all know he doesn't normally play good music anymore, and I'm certain he's aware of that too. He's basically telling the world that he only plays the EDM crap to make money, but his actual musical passion has never changed.
I can't fault someone for being critical at that, but let's face it, I'm sure most people on this forum, even the ones that proclaim it should be strictly about the music would do the exact same thing that Tiesto's doing with the EDM sound if the opportunity presented itself. Please, tell me more about how they'd never sell out and so forth :rolleyes:
The young kids and those naive music fans whom are just starting to get into the scene like his parties so what's really wrong with it? At least he doesn't pull retarded stunts like Steve Aoki. Also, might not dig his music selection but you have to respect his skills from a technical standpoint. His mixing abilities are world class.
That being said, I haven't heard a recent Tiesto set in over a year, probably longer. But I respect the talent and I respect that he doesn't try to fake his act like AvB does. Tiesto knows what he plays and doesn't try to pass it off as something authentic like Armin. He's looking to make a bunch of money and be famous and doesn't hide from that. I like the transparency.
And Magik 5 is still the best trance album I've ever heard. All the Magik CDs for that matter are sublime. I always cringe these kids that are just getting into the whole deep tech scene tell me that Tiesto sucks. Yeah the music he spins sucks but he can out DJ just about anyone I can think of if properly motivated. |
