Definitely.
The writer market is saturated with "copyists."
Since I currently work in content marketing, I interact and engage with a lot of these copyists who are out there faking the funk as writers.
Hurts my soul. |
I wouldn't call content marketing "art" (except in the pointless, postmodern, urinal-in-a-gallery, everything-and-nothing-is sense of the term), and I say that as a former copy writer. |

Dude, it's all about the je ne sais quoi. |
It's true, though! I love art to no end, so pursuing a degree in it made the most sense when I was 18. Turns out academia is the farthest thing from inspiration for me, so now I do technical stuffs. Look at the dickwaggery in this thread- is anyone going to learn anything? Curating a tumblr is a more enlightening experience than comparing notes on the afterbirth of movements past. The coin collections of millionaires, give me a break. Let's talk about how big their TVs are.
Avana was maybe the only person I could read at length on here when it came to insight into art. |

I never said it was art. I implied the opposite, actually.
All it is is manipulating content in an effort to adhere to Google's algorithms while ranking high. I give Google props. They've been releasing new updates that puts more value on a good writer (as opposed to a copyist) because you can't just write , stuff it with keywords, and game the system anymore.
Anyways, I hate this , but it pays the bills
I've been suppressing the artist in me who keeps yelling at me to leave this all behind and get lost in the world with a pen and pad.
Where's the line between being an artist and having to be a productive member of society. A so-called "normal" person. Bleh.
I digress. |

| We all fancy ourselves little artists because the liberalization of western education laid the course as standard for post-industrial nuclear society bent on exploiting the privilege of introspection. We might be seeing a fair bit of blowback from that age, these days. |

Would seeing a Klimt exhibition suffice? :gsmile: (wasn't a private tour, though.) |

From my experience that kind of work just drains all your creative energy on something that ultimately isn't yours, which is one of the reasons I got out of it. I've found it much better to just get a job where you don't burn out your creativity from 9-5. It really isn't that hard to come home from work and spend the evening writing instead of getting high, playing videogames, going to the gym, watching sports or whatever other you normally do with your free time. |

Truth.
I'd like to find a writing gig where I'm able to get a consistent byline (merging it with an interest is an added bonus - music, travel, whatever). But Internet content marketing is booming and everything else is dying.
If you're a decent enough writer, you shine in this industry. But who and what you shine for doesn't really mean .
Meh. I'll get out there and get lost eventually. Need that Polish citizenship first. |
