Is the News the cause?

| I think the news is to blame so much in recent events. For example, the whole incident with this sniper, will probably never be solved had the news not given it too much coverage. Thanks to the news, the sniper now knows that the police is looking for him, and how they are looking for him. So in other words, he has the homefield advantage and will be one step ahead all the time. I think the news is informative, but sometimes being to informative and continuing a story too long can cause many problems. Well this is just to start a little bit of comments between us so I hope I see some feedback. The Demon has spoke. |

I don't really care about what is going on over there. That's how it is if you live in the states ( no offence ). One day it's a sniper, next day it's anthrax, then it's some angry kid with a gun or a terrorist with a bomb. getting used to hearing stuff like that on the news..
(same with the september 11th attack..I mean it was a big deal etc. but when they dropped the atomic bomb half a century ago, over 100.000 people died. The sept. 11 attack is NOTHING compared to that since 'only' 2000+ people died on that day.)
my 2 cents

they dropped 2 atomic bombs by the way..
And those 2 atomic bombs are what ended WW2..
if the U.S. haden't done that, there is a chance that we might be living under communist Japanese rule... That would be fun now wouldn't it..
People should stop ragging on the U.S. because as bad as they are, they have been the " nicest " super power in recorded history..
the worlds problems doesn't come from the U.S. and there idea of democracey it comes from the other side of the world and there idealogy that died 100 years ago in the westernised world..
back to topic.. I'd have to agrea with lazerGuy |

I didnt know there were other superpowers....
Yes there have been imperialist countries such as England and Portugual and France. But they werent a 'Superpower'. a Superpower (Even though this hasnt really been defined) is a country that basically runs the rest of the world through their foreign policies

I don't think that media should be blamed for anything. I mean the important thing here is that news gives people awareness about what's happening around them. Thus, people who are aware of the mad sniper would think twice before walking in the areas where the shootings have happened. Of course there is media bias, but that's another topic by itself. |

you could say so but i think that it shoould only be blown up in the local news and not on news channels all over N. America and the rest of the world. cos honestly, maybe a small mention is ok but haveing 40-50 % of the news coverage of that in each news session is totally annoying |

Its funny how completely out of context you took my post, twisted it around and made it mean nothing about what i said..
What do you mean how could we possibly be under communist rule..
First of all The Americans dropped to nuclear bombs on JAPAN, I don't know where you got Germany.. and the americans were not like " oh, look we have a big bomb lets use it " there was a HUGE debate within congress to determine whether or not to use this weapon.. THe reason they decided to use it, was the war with Japan was no where near to over, nor did they know if they would win the war..
So SAY Japan did win that war.. The U.S.A. would not be the super power it is today... And where would that leave the rest of the world.. Frankley we would live in a completely different society then we do today.. and that is NOT debatable.. If the americans had not dropped the two nuclear warheads things would be completely different for better or for worse i can only speculate.. Personally i think for worse..
and halo thanks for the personall shot, I'm not even going to comment on it..
And who are you to define what a super power is?!?!?!?
Britain was the worlds super power for the longest time.. they colonized half the planet, and even invaded and controlled the middle east succesfully..
You know what the worlds problem is religiouse people.. There i said religiouse ing psychos thats the worlds problem..
El kay Dee, if you have a different opinion on the subject then myself i completely respect that... However right now the trend seems to be lets be as anti-american as possible.. When infact they are a pretty good country, the government treats its people as well as they can, and they are fairly descent to the rest of the world.. no doubt they have flaws, but i do not think they are the source of evil..
anyhow, I am extremely sorry for tainting your thread..
i do agrea that the media needs to cool off a bit because they are deffanitly giving this sniper an upper hand.. |

how do you know that that new society wouldn't have been better than this one?
don't know if you've noticed, but this whole world is coming under big brother one way or another. i'm not going to like living in it.
this isn't meant to criticize, just to serve as an eye-opener. ymmv. |

religion huh???
religion is an escape from reality to give the religious hope of a btter afterlife and to believe that they are in the hands of someone who cares. maybe u arent religious...not my problem... i go to church every sunday..no i aint tryin to say im better than u. but i dont pray everyday ...only when i go to church i pray and i believe that im obligated to do at least taht...now because of that are u gonna call me a psycho??
listen dude...all u gotta do is look outside the box.... im not on these forums to argue but there have been too many of these threads about america being good or bad before if u want, go through them... i have put up enough of my words in those..
and the way u wrote ur first post gave a strong implication to what fueled my reply through rage that u couldnt care less about the 100,000 people that died and the amount of people in japan taht still suffer from defects due to the genetic mutation that occured thanks to those bombs on their ancestors. |

if you're suggesting that japan would've conquered the north america and put us all under imperialist (they weren't communist) rule, you're nuts. even if the axis did win, there's no way they could take over north america as well.
anyways, about the media. criminal psychologists say that guys like the sniper get a kick out of being on tv and stuff. all this coverage only fuels his lust for attention. but i mean, you can't blame the media. |
