It's a shame he wrecked it so hard lol.

I believe that homelands set is the incident involving the jacked up turntables and hence the wreching. I think they threw the turntables in the water or something like that. Dont remember exactly, but there is some story to it.
Syntonic
Ha yeah, the Vestax decks. Probably the best place for them, they made good mixers though.
SYSTEM-J
Sasha had been sent a pair of complimentary Vestax turntables. After the Homelands incident he went home and threw them in his pond. If you listen to that transition it's fine, and then suddenly jumps out of synch.

Tune of that set is Bon Voyage, for me. Main stage monster.

I always forget how great Kobyashi - Release is, slaps me in the face.

Cheers for this. Great time in history for Sasha.

I don't really understand why people think this wouldn't be a Sasha set; his sound certainly changed after 2000 but he was known for Epic house and trance in the 90's. Listen to some of his sets from 94-96 and you'll hear classic trance and epic. He used to hammer a lot of PVD but then their suonds got further apart.

That Danny howels mix has some bangers in there. I used to love hearing the Xcabs track in a big club.

EDIT: For anyone that wants all the essential mixes for 1998, Tribal Mixes has the 1998 year pack. I won't post the link here as it is technically copyrighted material and don't want swamper to get google banned again. Search and ye shall find ;)

Personally, I am digging a lot of his sets from 1989-1994.

Sorry for the bump but its better than starting another sasha thread. Anyway, ive been listening to some of his older sets and its amazing to me just how much his sound changed every year. Its crazy to even think that the same exact guy is responsible for all these different mixes. The sound changes nearly by year. He was pushing new sounds as soon as the old one became popular. In his prime there was no more forward thinking DJ. I actually like Ame and Dixon but have they even slightly changed their sound in the last 10 years if not 20? Sasha was already a legend by 92 and he constantly found new tracks and new sounds and pushed his djing into new terrain.

Which begs the question. Is there anyone currently as forward pushing as he was in their prime? And if not why? Just seems like DJs today are far more comfortable finding a sound and just doing that for all their careers. Truth be told, im amazed at how much good music gets made today. As good as it ever was in the 90s but it seems that no one plays those tracks out at all. They will just play whatever their label makes and some promos that sound just like their own work.
