because whenever i drive up to vancouver with my car which has a washington license plate, there is an extremely large chance that it will get broken into, because of the american license plate (as they are targeted), and that i will have to pay 150 dollars for my smashed out window, as well as a case full of ~50 *real, not burned* cds in my trunk. i love canada because this sort of thing has happened directly or indirectly to literally everyone i know down here who has ever been up to vancouver with a washington plate.
then again, i also love canada because the thieves are so nice that they will leave a note in the back of my car saying "hope this didnt ruin your trip, hope you get home ok". yes, yes.. i love canada. |
happens. at least we don't have rampant serial killer snipers. |

yeah man!!! The rest of the country is pretty ugly IMO. We've got it all in BC, plus we grow some killer bud ;)

explain to me how this is corollated at all to what i said, or were you just trying to be witty?
in any event, if you want to compare, i dont know any canadian who gets their car targeted to get broken into when they come down south to washington.
and by the way, i like going up to vancouver, i like my canadian ta friends, but since this thread was obviously started as semi america bashing, and to try to make canada look good, i felt like bringing up something REALLY ty that makes me and all my college friends here scared to go up to vancouver.

zero excuse to pick out americans to do to.
i can also add that if you drive an american car and go to a show at the plaza, coliseum, etc.. in vancouver... when you come out, odds are your car will be covered in eggs, your windshield smashed, or something else as wonderful. again, if you want to compare, that never happens to canadians down here. |

i can't believe these things can happen because here in Quebec or at least Montreal there are so many cars from the US east cost (even Florida) and as far as i know they don't get any trouble ... |

Honestly, I have a hard time believing this as well... maybe just a combination of wrong place/wrong time? Btw, the coliseum is very near the worst area in Vancouver... |

| if indeed it was the wrong place, wrong time... then literally everyone i know who has either directly or indirectly had one of these things happen (by indirectly, i mean they were up there with a friend who had it happen, etc)... must just be in the small percentile.. because i am seriously not exagerating at all |

| sothis ur starting to sound like one of those unfortunate patiotic ignorant americans that ppl always categorize the US ppl as.....what made u think this is a bash america thread? because we're talkin about canada instead of the states? have u noticed nobody from turkey, italy, cuba etc. have been offended by this thread? u got to take a chill pill.... and guess what sothis of course american cars are gonna be targeted, its th same thing weith canadian cars in the US...u wanna know why??? because if ur car gets stolen in Canada its harder to trace because u have american pin numbers... same thing with canadian cars in the US...they get stolen alot and theyre never found because number 1 its the not the US's problem and number 2 because its got different pins making it really hard to trace |

Very good point vivid.
and sothis, about your car, that is very unfortunate, but the simple fact is that vancouver is a rough place, there are tons of cars stolen and broken into there every day. you may have been targeted because the thieves thought it would be better to target an american car for the reason that vivid suggested. or it could have been a coincidence. It also could be that the thieves didn't like americans, that is a definite possibility, many people don't.
I certainly don't agree that because of the actions of US politicians and corporations, we should target american citizens, but some people do. And in a way, the world is counting on the american citizens to let their govt and corporations know that their actions are not appreciated, and since we don't get to vote in your elections, maybe a broken window is just a very assinine and immature way of saying "don't vote bush!"
Anyway, just to present the other side of the story, i have had my car broken into several times, windows smashed, CDs stolen, all in a little town of 70,000 people. It's a fact of life wherever you live.
and, when i came down to vancouver, i was careful to take all my CDs and valuables out of my car, and take the faceplate off my CD player before leaving. As i left the car, my buddy said "did you lock the doors?" i said yeah, he said "don't, they will just break the windows to get in to see what you have" so i just left them unlocked, and nothing in there to steal.
My suggestions to you are to do this if you come to van again, and maybe get a club for your steering wheel, or an alarm, so they don't steal your whole car.
or, if you really think they just singled you out because you are american, maybe you should consider taking your plates off your car and bringing them with you?
just a thought. |
