-all the cities
-multiculturalism, very strong in T.O, where you can be chinese, indian, american, french or anything else. you can keep your own identity
-the country is peacefull and stays out of conflicts

exactly what I'm trying to say.

Most outsiders don't realize how different many parts of our country are. Its also why we have a hard time agreeing with each other ;)

Beautiful mountains and forests in the West.

Lush, beautiful prairie farming community in central Canada.

Lush, rich forests in Northern Ontario, beautiful urban areas in Southern Ontario. The awesome Niagra Falls.

French culture in Quebec, their two main urban centres (Montreal + Quebec City) ar awesome, reminds me a lot of many European cities.

Fising community in the maritimes, and lots of nice scenery there too!

The Arctic isn't too densely populated, but once you get over into the Yukon, you get some great scenary w/ the rocky mountains.

As for winters? It's not that bad, unless you are part of like the 10% of the population that lives more than 500km north of the US-Canada border. If you live in Toronto, you should probably know that New York's winters are worse, because of all the moisture that storm fronts pick up as the move East across lake Ontario, and towards NYC ;)

Our main urban centres (Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver, Montreal and Quebec City) are safe, with lower crime rates than most American cities. Our cities are also very unique. I think Vancouver has a very cool waterfront (expecially compared to Toronto's.... THEY NEED TO LOSE ALL THE ABANDONED INDUSTRIAL CRAP AND GET RID OF SOME OF THOSE UGLY ASS EMPTY LOTS!!!). Toronto has more trees than any other major city in the world so I hear, which is believable because there are trees everywhere.

Some ppl might make fun of our military and , but why should anyone here care? Instead of spending billions on military, we have free health care. And we don't believe in 'policing' the world as the USA seems to doing. Peacekeeping not policing!!!

Oh, and we're the only country on Earth that is united by beer commericals ;)

I personally would rather live in the States. As Canadians all I see us saying is a bunch of RAH RAH we are better than the States, we are morally superior, our government is better...which I think is all bull. Maybe it's an inferiority complex or something. Our weather sucks, we're over taxed, we have poor infrastructure (every time I go to the states or anywhere in the world I realize how we can't build roads that last more than a year) and our prime minister is a national embarrassment. Some things are good, our social services are more comprehensive than USA, but even that's exagerrated.

LoL...ya MOST theives rob on the bases of foreign policy....

in fact MOST American cars are stolen by foreigners who leave notes pinned to the steering wheels after they abandon them reading:
"we stole your car because of George Bush and Microsoft..we are tired of you darn Americans"

My suggestions to you are to do this if you come to van again, and maybe get a club for your steering wheel, or an alarm, so they don't steal your whole car.

dont get a "CLUB"...car theives simply saw your steering wheel in half and then slide the club out...very easy to bypass...Alarms dont do anythig except cause noise.

or, if you really think they just singled you out because you are american, maybe you should consider taking your plates off your car and bringing them with you?
.

ya instead of a car thief taking your car...let the police take it..LOL...you cant leave a car on the street without plates...

Some of it is true. Alot of us do have that attitude. But I guess some of it is defensive, so we don't get totally assimilated into American culture. Our roads are kinda bumpy here and there, but at least we don't have to line up at toll booths. What roads are you talking about anyway? and what are you comparing it too?

I dunno who's more of an embarassment, Jean C, or Dubya. lol...

Its true that there is a Canadian brain drain, alot of our young minds are going to the states to get work because they get so much more money there. But unless you're rich, or are a professional, I think you're better off here. Its good to be rich in the states, sucks to be poor. Middle-class america is very glamorous and appealing in the movies, but I loved growing up in Suburban Mississauga, and wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. I've also spent two weeks in the bronx with my uncle. That wasn't very pretty, worse than the worst conditions here in Toronto.

Education there will rape you too. I have people here on my floor from the states that study here at UofT because its just cheaper, even though they have to pay extra for being an international student. OSAP is kind to me too, $9,000 a year. Only thing that can make me leave is a fatter paycheck, and even then I might pass it up.

anyone complaining about why the roads are crap in canada is an idiot...

its like complaining that water is wet?!?!

the roads are bad because or weather is so harsh. Asphalt cracks everytime the temperature goes over then under the congelation point. And that basically happens almost everyday in the autumn and spring all over Canada. Plus add to that the heavy traffic (everytime an 18 wheeler pass it is the equivalent of a traffic of a 10000 cars!) and you can see why the roads are so bad!!!

In other countries (i.e. the US) they don't have that kind of annoying weather. In order for us to have the same quality of roads we would have to redo them about every 2 or 3 years!!! Imagine the costs!

The ultimate solution is to have all our road made of concrete!! The downside is the cost and "noisy" driving... it cost about 30 to 50 times more to make a road completly in concrete... but it doesn't crack with our harsh weather.

^^^^^^^^^^
You sound as ignorant as the American who posted previously (he was from upstate NY) and talked about how our weather is harsher than the States. I just need to drive a half an hour East (not South) of Southern Ontario and cross at Lewiston NY and immediatly the roads are smooth and well made with proper markings and road signs. You can't tell me that the weather is harsher here than there. In fact, I have been to Maine which is way farther North than Southern Ontario and same thing there. Even all the way down to Virginia, the the annual snowfall is much higher than in Southern Ontario (especially throughout the appalachains up to the Adirondacks). In fact Southern Ontario is the same latitude as Northern California and Mediterranean France, but obviously our continental climate is much harsher. I think alot of Canadians and Americans are ignorant of the fact that most of the Canadian Population lives alot further south than they think.

I can tell you why the infrastructure is better in the states: their population is nearly 300 million (I think) whereas ours is around 30 million. WE have a huge land mass with a tiny population to supply taxes for better infrastructure like roads. But, that doesn't provide an excuse for the crappy job that is done in building them in the first place. Anyone remember when they were expanding the QEW niagara? It took years longer than it should of (huge waste of tax money) the skyway (still working on it for the 4th year or so and another squander). If I go directly over the border, a road that takes years to build in Canada takes a month in New York.

Most people don't go to the States for money either. In fact, most go because of Job opportunity. This provides a haven for people to start business in Canada because there are jobs that could be started (the animation graduates from Sheridan for example) but there is little incentive to start a business in Canada when you have to give 50% of your profits back to the government in taxes. That is a terribly punitive tax measure for people starting small business.
