WRONG. The year of prog was 2001 and late 2000. That was when a lot of dj's turned prog and he ones that always had played prog-esque tunes became more popular and played even more hardcore prog. Cue ascension of Holden to his throne as prog king as held by many. Observe at least 20 top dj's putting out prog 2-disc sets. Max Graham finished what Collins started in turning tranceport into transport aka prog. Collins also turned strictly prog around then. Also Sasha & Digweed gained even more followers. This year is more along the lines of beginning to mould prog and uplifting together.. and i really like the results!
And dont kid yourself. all the popular tunes are still the ones being hammered out by the dutch triumverate + PvD. |
I like your writing style; some people forget the whole grammar and punctuation thing.
Anyhow, you're correct. Prog infected like a virus in the aftermath of '99 trance, and now the two are beginning to form some sort of synthesis. Both the strict adherents of trance and progressive, Ferry worshippers and GU folk respectively, better drop their high opinions before they lose the crowd to new artists moving in this direction.
Who are you defining as the 'dutch triumverate'? |

every year is a good year!
where as me properly the best yaers were end of 1998
beginning of 1999 to 2000
alot of quality tunes came out in those 2 years.
this year there are a "FEW" good tracks produced...
some quality and most cheesey.
quite hard to find good quality tunes this year.
but there out there... |

hope 2003 is more uplifting/melodic
like stuff from the 98/99 era

I beg to differ. Any recent Armin set has been comparable to '99. |

I sort of agree with the opening post. Frankly i've completely gone off my standard trance. Give me some phatt breaks or Drum'N'Bass anyday -- or some cool Techno. Progressive stuff is ok too.. but standard trance (that's AvB/Corsten/PvD etc) really is dead for me. (maybe with the odd exception. :))
Personaly I think they need to move on. :) |

what is this thread about?! the only thing that pisses me off in 2002 are the people who are only here to bash djs and always repeat how the trance scene has changed. 2002 is a very good year of trance music. many good tracks. in that forum especially music discussion are a tendency prevails against tiesto and ever more against PvD. everything which I only hear here is "cheese" and "commercial". I think youre problem is that youre enviously on their more and more rising success. "everything is cheese except progressive, so common people if youre not a commercial and if you dont wanna get bashed from us listen to progressive, this is cool". youre attitude sucks! change youre childisch attitude and come back when youre matured.
please have respect for the music those djs to play whether if you like it or not.
thanks for youre attention! |

The best "underground trance" set I can recommend for those who bother is Noel Sanger Live @ Club Space, 20/10/2002.
It has renewed my love for trance, and yes, like it or not, epic "Ligaya-style-put-your-hands-up-in-the-air" trance is dead. Progressive, subtle trance is the new sound, as prog and trance slowly merges from the trends set in late 2000. Have a listen to the set and be convinced. |

Why do we even care what year these tracks are made? I mean it's not like the prodcuer's like "hummmm, it's 2002, time for some new and different sounds". Years are something we go by to tell where we are in time. I don't think the year has anything to do with what tracks are good and what one's are ty.
If you look at, every genre's sound changes over time. |

I think that this year is just flooded with average quality tracks. I mean there is probably quite a few great tracks out there but finding them has become more difficult thanks to everyone and their dog making uninspired trance.
I have to say though that Sasha's airdrawndagger really made this year for me, its one of the true gems this year and without it I think my outlook for this year would have remained pretty bleak.
I've gotten much more into progressive these last 6 months, but I still yearn for the great trance in 1998-2001..
That's not to say you can't find great stuff today, but it sure seems like this year has been much weaker for quality than the previous years.
Lets hope next year doesn't continue this trend, since I'm finding myself listening to more and more ambient and progressive tracks :) |
